The silk threads are taken from silkworm cocoons that have been boiled and the protein fibre is woven into textiles. The stages of a silkworm’s growth include: egg, caterpillar, cocoon and then moth. Lei Zu, the wife of the Emperor Huang Di created this method. The best type of silk is from the cocoons of larval silkworms.
