PTO Grants Appreciated by All
Each year the D103 Parent Teacher Organization provides teachers in all three schools with grants to encourage and support creative and innovative learning methods that enhance the District 103 curriculum. The PTO provides upwards of $30,000 in grants annually. This year students received grants for:
Sensory processing and regulation materials
Accessories to upgrade live streaming events
Library shelving
Display boards for student work
Swivel robots for instructional coaching
Adjustable sitting to standing desks
Xylophones
Cricket Club materials
Links for Learning grants are supported by PTO membership fees, school supply orders, and spirit wear purchases.
“District staff members appreciate receiving these grants from the PTO as they provide the opportunity to pilot innovative curriculum, projects and activities,” said Katie Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
Inspired by other teachers at Daniel Wright, seventh-grade math teacher Georgia Voutiritsas utilized the Links to Learning grant money to purchase flexible seating furniture. Based on research, flexible seating increases student focus. Mrs. Voutiritsas reported, “Now that we have the standing desks, stools, and ball chairs, students are eager to participate in math activities and are excited to learn.”

School Schedule Change

Tuesday, March 29: School resumes for students
Women's History Month
National Women's History Month was established by presidential proclamation in order to draw attention to and improve the focus on women in historical studies. It began in New York City on March 8, 1857, when female textile workers marched in protest of unfair working conditions and unequal rights for women. It was one of the first organized strikes by working women, during which they called for a shorter workday and decent wages. Also on March 8, in 1908, women workers in the needle trades marched through New York City's Lower East Side to protest child labor, sweatshop working conditions, and demand women’s suffrage. Beginning in 1910, March 8 became annually observed as International Women's Day. Women’s History Week was instituted in 1978 in an effort to begin adding women’s history into educational curricula. In 1987, the National Women's History Project successfully petitioned Congress to include all of March as a celebration of the economic, political, and social contributions of women.

Lunch Menu Substitutions
Providing a fresh, wholesome, made from scratch menu to your children is of the highest priority to Quest Food Management Services, D103's lunch provider. Menus are planned in advance and we strive to always serve “what is on the menu.”
Quest is working diligently with our product supply partners to continue to serve your children the highest quality ingredients possible. Although we have done well, we are not immune to the current supply chain issues.
When substitutions are necessary, we have hand-selected those products to replace our normal ingredients aligning them as close as possible to what is on the menu for that day. Please know that this is a daily challenge and menus can change at any moment.
Please reach out to Vicky Shargo, Food Service Director, at vshargo@questfms.com with any questions. Thank you for your continued participation. Lunch menus can be viewed on the Quest Food Services website.
