The Little Prince!!

This week we'll be learning about elements of fiction by reading one of my favorite novels ever, The Little Prince.


We will do this by learning and practicing a writing-to-learn strategy called the Double-Entry Journal. This is a comprehension and analysis strategy you will be able to use in middle school, high school and college!

Monday Objective: We will describe incidents that advance the story or novel by using sentence stems to journal in response to selections from The Little Prince.

In Chapters 1-4, we will meet the narrator and the little prince.


In the left column of our journal, we will use the following sentence stems to analyze the plot in these chapters.


The narrator wanted _______________ but ____________________________.

The reader knows this because _____________________________________.

An interesting event from this chapter is ________________________________.

Thursday GT Objective: We will explain how authors use dialect to convey character by using sentence stems to journal in response to selections from The LIttle Prince.

In Chapters 10-15, we will meet many new characters as the narrator recounts the little prince's travels to different planets.


In the left column, we will analyze these characters using the following sentence stems:

FRIDAY DO NOW

Friday Objective: We will explain the roles of characters in various plots, including their relationships and conflicts, by creating a one pager using Skitch.

A one pager is a single-page response to your reading. It is a way of making your pattern of your unique understanding. It is a way to be creative and experimental. It is a way to respond imaginatively and honestly.


Today you will create a one pager that explains the roles of two characters in the novel.


INSTRUCTIONS


  1. Pick two characters from the novel.
  2. Use this sentence stem to explain a conflict they have.(Character 1) wanted _______________ but (Character 2) _________________.
  3. Look for a sentence from the novel that represents each character.
  4. Act out the conflict and take a picture of it.
  5. Use Skitch to label the characters, add your sentence stem and add the sentences from the novel that represent each character.
  6. Upload these photos to Google Drive.
  7. Upload these photos to the Google Classroom assignment
