February Parent Newsletter
CAREER-RELATED PROGRAMME NEWS
Do you own or work for a business/institution that may be interested in partnering with one of West's new IB Career-Related Programme pathways? Our opening CP pathways will be 1) Health Sciences, 2) Dietetics/Nutrition and 3) Coding. A pathway partnership would mean:
- Your company/insitution would gain public recognition for their partnership with the pathway
- Partner may provide field experts to come speak to our students during instructional time
- Partner may provide a capstone experience for students to physically get into a working environment in their final year of the CP.
- Our community partners will be an integral part of helping West High students to explore a chosen field of focus and serve as a real life example of what it is like to work in that field!
Please contact Shannon Siebe at shannon.siebe@knoxschools.org if you are interested or would like more information.

CLASS OF 2021 IBDP REGISTRATION IS COMING!! THINGS TO CONSIDER:
2) Your child can choose to either pursue the full IB Diploma or take classes for certificates/course completion. We will explain the difference during our classroom visits.
3) Summer assignments may be required for IB courses just as in AP courses. Details regarding summer assignments will be released later in the spring.
4) Please plan to attend our IB Curriculum Night on January 24th from 5-7 in the Lecture Hall. This will be a time for our IB teachers to discuss their course curriculum so that you and your child can be well informed before the registration window opens.
5) Please remember that students enrolled in an IB course MUST take the IB exam at the conclusion of that course in order to receive the 5-points added to their final grade. Things to know:
- In 2-year IB courses, students must complete all internal assessment requirements during year 1 to get 5-points at the end of Year 1. They must take the official IB external exam at the end of Year 2 to get the 5 points added in the senior year.
- In 1-year IB courses (Psych, World Religions, Theatre) students must complete all internal assessments and take the official IB external assessment at the end of the course.
6) There are registration and exam fees required to register for IB exams. If you are eligible for financial assistance, that assistance DOES extend to IB exams and registration fees. You are only responsible for exam fees during the year the student takes the final external assessment.
