Carrillo Community Update

November 27 - December 2

Good Evening Cougar Families!

I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It's been a busy quarter so far and hopefully you and your families had time to stop, take a breath, and enjoy each others company. This week is a relatively light week before the hustle and bustle of the end of quarter is upon us. Enjoy it!

Last Week's Highlights

To culminate our focus on Native American Heritage Month, students were given the opportunity to complete a nine square activity to learn about current Native American tribes across the United States. All students who participated were entered into a drawing for a Fall Basket. Congratulations to this cougar for winning and thank you to everyone who participated! We hope you had fun and learned something interesting.

We have an interactive art display in our gallery right now. The First Grade Cougar Town was a collaborative project between Ms. Tautimer, Ms. Ramirez, and Ms. Dal Pra as part of their study of communities. As an added twist, there are a variety of items hidden in the town. Check back regularly, as items move around the city!

Step Up to Middle School

To all parents/guardians of 5th graders – you are invited to our TUSD STEP UP Middle school EXPO! Our TUSD Secondary Expo will be Thursday, Dec 1 from 5:30 PM – 7:30PM at the Tucson Convention Center. This is your opportunity for you and your child to visit all of our TUSD Middle School booths, meet our middle school principals and learn about the middle school programs. You will be able to register your child that night. Our high schools and CTE programs will also be there, in addition to student performances. Please save this date and plan on attending the TCC – there will also be free parking for you.

Just a reminder that on Tuesday November 29th, we'll be taking class pictures and retakes for any student who missed the first photo day.

We will be hosting a "Make a Difference Day" at Carrillo this Saturday from 9:30 - 12:00 pm.

If you are able to come by to help us tackle a few projects to enhance the recess times for students, we'd appreciate it! The sign up for supplies and work is below. Thank you in advance!

Las Posadas Support

Our 86th Annual Las Posadas is scheduled for December 16th.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far! We are still looking for parent and community volunteers to help us with the event. If you have 30 minutes of time you can donate to the school to support set up, ticket sales, food sales, or clean up we thank you in advance for signing up using the attached link.

Like any developing skill, kindness asks us to commit to practicing regularly, and committing to kindness as a family can provide inspiration, encouragement, and accountability. Ask your students to see if they can fill a room or space (maybe the fridge) with colorful messages representing kindness enacted or witnessed at home! Documenting kindness at home will strengthen the idea that everyone can perform and receive kindness. By committing to kindness, we recognize that our actions contribute to a kinder and more connected community.

The AmeriCorps STEMM program and the Center for the Recruitment and Retention of Math Teachers is offering FREE online math tutoring to K-12 students. Call 520.621.6866 or email with question. Please also visit their website to see schedule of tutors and topics avalable.

The Health Office wants to remind you that student who are sick need to stay home. This includes cold, flu, strep throat, COVID, etc. Thank you for keeping for student home when they are sick. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Ms. Alvarado at 225-1217.
