Is it COVID or is it the FLU?
ONLY A DIAGNOSIS CAN TELL
Please do not panic or think someone has COVID-19 at the first sign of a sneeze or fever. While the two spread similarly, a test and diagnosis are needed to know for sure. This is why it is important to wear your mask.
COVID-19 and the flu have many signs and symptoms in common that include: fever, cough, shortness of breath, tiredness, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, headache or nausea or vomiting (more common in children than adults).
The symptoms for both COVID-19 and the flu can range from no symptoms to mild to severe, and because they have similar symptoms, it can be hard to diagnose which condition we have based on our symptoms alone. Testing would need to be done to see if we have COVID-19 or the flu. However, we can also have both diseases at the same time.
Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Box
Each bus in service is equipped with a PPE Box containing the items needed to keep drivers, monitors and passengers safe. Protection for our drivers against COVID-19 during the pandemic is definitely a priority.
FACE MASKS
All drivers, monitors and passengers are required to wear a face mask. The CDC guidelines for masks are as follows:
- CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
- Masks may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
- Masks are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings.
- Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
- Masks with exhalation valves or vents should NOT be worn to help prevent the person wearing the mask from spreading COVID-19 to others (source control).
Face masks are not considered a one size fits all item. By now, most individuals have determined what is the best fit when it comes to wearing a face mask. Some prefer cloth masks, others prefer a cotton blend, while others prefer disposable.
The Student Transportation Services Department has provided washable face masks to all staff, but these masks are not the only ones that can be worn. All staff are welcome to bring their own face mask as long they conform to the District guidelines for face masks.
Make sure to keep your mask clean and wear it every day.
Non-Emergency Unscheduled Stops
When stopping at a school to use the restroom, please make sure to do so without disruption to the campus. Drivers/ monitors should not congregate in the teacher lounge or other areas while on campus.
