COUNSELING OFFICE

Career Corner:

We started out I ❤️ Career Month with 200 students participating in Job a Shadow Day! We will continue the month with Career Assessments and opportunities for students to participate in Virtual Job Shadowing through the SC Education Department Occupation website through SCOIS. National Engineering Week is February 16-22. Any student interested in the field of Engineering has the opportunity to check out the Engineering Open House at the University of South Carolina on February 16th. This is not a school-sponsored event however, we want to highlight this great opportunity to participate in a one-day open house event geared toward kindergarten through 12th-grade students on Feb. 16. With hands-on exhibits, educational activities and opportunities to talk to real-life engineers, students can have all their engineering and computer science questions answered as they dive deeper into the field. STEM DAY 2019

STEM day 2019 is right around the corner! Coinciding with Family Day on April 5th, McEntire JNGB will be hosting a hands-on learning event. While primarily geared toward grades 5-12, all ages are more than welcome. Along with the National Guard, there will be multiple organizations with exhibits like the SC State Museum, Palmetto Health, and many more. Among other topics, they will have the opportunity to see applied examples of robotics, learn the basics of EM theory, and develop an understanding of satellite constellations. Please pass this information along to any teachers, schools, or parties that you think might be interested in engaging students and seeing how STEM plays into everyday life! For more information please reach out to us at stem.scang@gmail.com.

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT:

Mrs. Yandle is our teacher in the spotlight this week. The following was sent about Mrs. Yandle, “I would like to nominate Ashley Yandle. She is an assistant in special education. She goes above and beyond to meet the needs of her students. She is constantly doing things to lift the spirits of those around her. She is a fabulous part of the Fox family.” Way to go Mrs. Yandle in making a difference to your students and your coworkers!

Please email us and tell us why you think a teacher is going above and beyond at our school. Every teacher nominated will have their morning duty or lunch duty for special area teachers taken care of for a day. The teachers truly appreciate knowing what they do matters and the break that comes with it. To nominate a teacher send an email to DFMIDDLEPTSA@gmail.com. Please add the teachers name, grade and why you are nominating them.

HELP NEEDED:

We are working with the SIC and guidance department to plan a digital/health awareness family event in April. We will need volunteers to help prepare, clean up, run the food station, and volunteers to just help direct people. Please email Jennifer Sandsted at dfmiddleptsa@gmail.com for more details.

NOTE:

If you have any ideas or suggestions please send us an e-mail. Share your thoughts. We'd love to hear from you!
