Student of the Week = Lorie Cowley
Lori has proven herself to be an outstanding person, student, and citizen. Without exception Lori has chosen a very challenging path and she has been successful in all she has attempted. Lori is a positive influence and a true leader in the school and to her classmates.
Also Nominated:
Brandon Walker
Brandon Walker’s picture should be in the dictionary next to the term “integrity.” He is responsible, dependable, hard-working, tenacious, gregarious, thoughtful, and involved with multiple areas of class or extra-curricular opportunities to learn and grow as an individual. The Mountaineer Spirit is clearly evident in all that this amazing young man does!
Ruth Black
Ruth is a great student that does all the little things right. She is sharp when it comes to school work but also one of our model citizens representing Santa Anna High School.
Ariel Guthrie
She is always up to date on everything. She is also willing to help her classmates. She has a good positive attitude and is pleasant o be around.
Dasia Kirven
"Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen." Dasia is a go getter! I am super proud of this strong, determined young lady.
Dasia, remember, don't ever let anyone stand in between you and your dreams.
Brad Brown
Brad shows great care and concern for his classmates. He works hard in my class and is always willing to help.
Employee of the Week = Calvin Brown
Creativity takes courage! Unlike young, adventures kids, high school students resist new tasks. I heard a group of kids say that they hated the idea of using messing charcoal in Art class but afterwards it was one of their favorite projects. Thanks for pushing these young minds to see their own beauty within themselves.
Also Nominated:
Mrs. Alonzo
Mrs. Alonzo does a fabulous job in the library! She is always willing to go above and beyond to assist students and staff when materials are needed. Her efforts make my job easier!
Amanda Ellerbe
Mrs. Ellerbe is always willing to help wherever she is needed and she is so generous with her limited time.

Sweepstakes Winners!
Santa Anna High School’s Mighty Mountaineer Band competed in sight reading and concert last week, hoping to earn the coveted “Sweepstakes” award for the 2nd year in a row. Sweepstakes happens when the band earns straight “1’s” from the judges in all three categories: marching, sight reading and concert. Last year, they were the first Santa Anna band to win Sweepstakes in 16 years. On last Thursday, they sealed their historic run by winning Sweepstakes yet again.
“This band is full of talented students. This is the best Santa Anna band I ever had, one of the best in my career. I’m very sad to see some of my great musicians graduate, but I’m excited to see who will replace them in the future,” says band director Jerry Barker.
“I joined band to gain confidence and find a community of musically inclined individuals. Band prepares you for life in ways you couldn’t imagine,” says Ariel Guthrie, a 4-year member of the band and one of the graduating seniors. “Band has helped me to be a leader and find my love for music,” says graduating senior Tatum Cantu. Both Ariel and Tatum are drum majors for the band.
Thank you, Mighty Mountaineer Band for playing with excellence and representing our school so well. We are proud of all your accomplishments and look forward to many more in the future.
