Rather than giving an absolute location of Austin involving coordinates, you could understand its relative location by knowing it is Northeast of San Antonio, or Southwest of Waco. This is a simpler understanding of where Austin is that uses reference points.

One of Austin's physical characteristics is its lack of precipitation. Austin isn't close to the ocean, so it doesn't receive many cool winds or rain clouds coming from the shore. You can see how dry and hot Austin is from the picture of dead, brown grass above.

Human- Environment Interaction

Modify: To get from place to place in Austin, people have modified the environment by building highways. From this modification has come the increasingly heavy traffic in the city.

Adapt: To adapt to the dryness, Austin is currently conserving water to get through our drought. In the picture below are details of the stage 2 water restriction Austin is under to preserve water.

Over the years, Austin's arts programs have developed the city's expressive and creative reputation. Whether it is theater, music, or art on canvas, the city has become a colorful place full of people who have grown to love any or all types of art. The Zach Scott theater is an example of Austin's blossoming theater programs.

The regional significance of Austin is that it is the capitol of Texas. The city connects to other places in Texas when representatives come to the capitol, the governmental center of the state, to make laws. Austin being the capitol city created the region's unique historical importance that is different from any other city in Texas.
