Thought for the Week
Engaging and encouraging debate, discussion and discourse
International Women's Day.
For many years women in the UK strived to reach an equal status to men, to be treated the same as them in all aspects of life and to enjoy the same rights. Some might say that those battles have now been won here at home although others might disagree. In other countries those issues are still a daily struggle for thousands of women and International Women's Day aims to raise awareness of this cause.
Suffragettes
British women fought for the right to vote using a variety of peaceful and non-peaceful methods.
Women in work.
After WWII women in Britain were much more likely to have jobs outside of the home but they were unlikely to receive equal pay to men.
Malala
The teenage activist was shot in the head by members of the Taliban for daring to insist girls have a right to an education.
