Lindsey Weekly Update
Week of August 3rd, 2020
Mrs. Bellan's Message
What a historic start we have already had to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year! We truly appreciate everyone's patience, grace, and flexibility as we plan for a return to school amid an ever-changing pandemic.
This summer staff has been working tirelessly to prepare the building for our new staff and students. It has not been easy with the situations being so fluid.
Please know that the primary way I will communicate with families will be from this weekly newsletter. During the school year, I traditionally send this out by email on Fridays. I also Tweet this newsletter and it will be posted to our website. If there is anyone you know who has not received this communication, please ask them to contact Mrs. Clucas to ensure that each of our families has access to this.
There are a lot of details to communicate at this current time so I sincerely appreciate your willingness to read this newsletter in its entirety.
Upon reading, should you have specific questions about any of the details contained in this document, please don't hesitate to let me know!
Best,
Meagan
Remote Start Supply Pickup
We will be arranging a date for every Lindsey family to drive by the building to pick up materials your child will need for the first three weeks of remote instruction. The date we have in mind is August 17th from 9-3; however, this date needs to be confirmed by the district. I will in touch when this tentative date is set.
Please drive by the front of the building anytime during the time window. If you pull in the parking lot in front of the building, a staff member will come to your car to ask the grade level of your child. The staff member will then put your child's materials in your trunk. Please do not get out of your car.
Included in these pick-up materials will be your family's car tag for parent pick-up. In these materials, we will have your child's login to Google Classroom as well as your child's daily schedule. Please contact Colleen Clucas if you are not able to stop by the school on the 17th to pick up these materials so we can arrange another time.
Lastly, we will soon be communicating more specifics about the Remote Start plan including the schedule and expectations. I will include more details in next week's newsletter.

New Family Tours
We recognize that many of the transitional activities we had planned at the end of last year to prepare students for this transition have not been possible. Therefore, we would like to do everything we can to help students feel connected to Lindsey and help prepare for a successful school year.
Therefore, we will be arranging tours of Lindsey during the weeks of August 24th and August 31st. Please sign up here if you and your child would like to see our building to familiarize yourself. There are two slots each half-hour to ensure that we will be able to provide a socially distant experience. Please know that masks are required.
Teacher Assignment
Firstly, families continue to decide what is best for their family in regard to deciding between in-person instruction versus our virtual online option. Please know that if you have not completed the Parent Survey indicating you would like Virtual, I am planning to have your child in-person. If this is not the case, please complete the survey as soon as you are able or email me directly with your decision.
Here is access to the Parent Survey to specify your choice for in-person or virtual enrollment:
https://forms.gle/v8bqAQQXEuCDc9XR7
Additionally, we continue to work with our staff to know who is able to teach in-person and who will be able to do virtual instruction. The parent survey helps us know how many sections we need for in-person versus virtual teaching.
Given all of this unfolding data, I will not be able to inform you of your child's teacher as early has been done in the past. It is critical that I balance classes using the data that is evolving along with ensuring we have a blend of Westwood, Lindsey, and Newbury students.
Please know that you will be informed of your child's teacher before the August 18th start date; however, it will likely be very close to the first day. Know that under normal circumstances we will go back to the traditional way of informing students of their teachers. Please bear with us for this unconventional way of doing business at the start of this year. Thanks for your understanding!

Calendars
This District school calendar is posted on the elementary webpage.
School Supplies/Fees
To reduce exposure, it is preferred if families can pay school fees online. Fees can be paid on August 18th or later.
Please note that all school fees can be paid via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal: https://lgca.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/west_geauga.jsp This site can also be found under the "parent" tab of the West Geauga website.
There are a few items that teachers may require students to bring separately including headphones, extra pencils, art shirt, and a pencil box. Your child's teacher will be in touch when school begins to communicate any additional materials that will be essential for the grade-level.
Additionally, we are not requiring families to provide any of the following materials this year; however, we would gladly appreciate donations of any of the following items:
dixie cups
gallon size Ziploc bags
quart size Ziploc bags
disinfectant wipes
boxes of tissues
hand sanitizer
Thank you so much for your support!
Transportation
If you are using daycare before or after school please make sure you submit your bus change request form as soon as possible so we can update bus routes. You can find the form on the webpages under forms and downloads. Please submit the completed form for Westwood grades K-2 to pam.mihalik@westg.org and Lindsey grades 3-5 to colleen.clucas@westg.org as soon as you have the information.
If you have transportation questions please call Cheryl Fowler, Transportation Supervisor at 440-729-0026 option 2.

Thank you for your understanding.
