Odds and Ends
Just a few reminders
Wish List-
- Life saver mints for mstep testing.
- Pencils - we are almost out of pencils - I think they are part beaver!?! :)
- I'm looking for a tall lamp to add to the classroom - Let me know if you have a tall one hanging out in your house that you would love to get rid of!
No Excuse Tub - Be sure to encourage your kiddo to check this tub if they have a missing assignment. I try to let kids know I am putting no name work on there...but they don't always check to see if it is there work!
Redo work - Redo work will not be allowed, unless the kiddo and I talked previously. I really want the kid to put forth their best effort the FIRST time! If there is a misunderstanding in the concept then, absolutely, the kiddo will be able to fix it.
MSTEP - The 4th grade window for MSTEP is May 9th - May 20th. Specific test times have not been determined yet. But its my hope that we can test in the morning. So please avoid any appointments for your kiddo during these weeks. We will be testing on Chrome books this year.
Mark your calendar!!! Our Henry Ford Rouge Tour/Greenfield Village trip is on the calendar for June 6th. PERMISSION SLIPS COMING HOME THIS WEEK! Families that have memberships will just have to pay for busing on this trip and give a copy of your membership card. This is another trip that has no limit to the number of parent volunteers. PARENTS MUST HAVE FILLED OUT A DISTRICT VOLUNTEER FORM! Parents will have to provide their own transportation to the Henry Ford - more details will come as we get closer!
Have a great week!

Curriculum
Reading -
This week we are reading a story about Ceasar Chavez. Kids will be focusing on inferring and predicting as we read about how Ceasar Chavez fought for equal rights for migrant farm workers.
Writing-
We've been working on writing poetry for the past few weeks. Kids have published 3 poems so far and we hope to publish a few more. We will be putting these into a mini booklet for them to bring home!
Math -
We are wrapping up unit 8. The test is tomorrow. With today's review the kids were able to choose the things they felt they needed extra practice on. Area of triangles and parallelograms are assessed but not graded on this test. So please do not worry if your kiddo is struggling with those concepts. Our next unit is back to fractions, decimal and percents!
Science -
We will be officially starting our plant unit today. Over the next few weeks we will be learning about the different parts of the plant, what a plant needs to survive and will be doing some different experiments. Later this week we will be planting our Wisconsin Fast Plants!
Social Studies -
We are wrapping up our human geography unit. No quiz or test for this and will be starting our Economics and Government units. This includes discussions about minisociety. We have not started anything officially yet so while kids might have an idea on what they want to do, they should not start yet.
Genius Hour-
Genius Hour for us is on Fridays from 2-3 pm. This is a time where the kids can learn about anything they are passionate about. This past Friday the kids completed some questions about their project. Some are quiet lofty! But they are amazing! The goal of genius hour is not a completed project, but it is more about the process. The learning that takes place during this time. I did ask the kids to bring their questions home to you so you can sign off on their project as well. This week I will be conferencing with groups (an hour goes super fast!) and narrowing down any ideas that need narrowing down. Kids will need to work on these projects at home to. The first two weeks are all about researching.
If you want to come in and volunteer during Genius Hour please do! Just be warned its a little messy but so very rewarding! I love seeing their ideas come to life.
