A Note from Our Nurse
Flu vaccine during Covid-19 pandemic
Health professionals are encouraging everyone to get the flu vaccine, especially this year. At this writing, we do not know the effect of a dual diagnosis of Covid-19 and the seasonal flu might have on a person’s body. The flu vaccine takes up to two weeks to reach peak effectiveness. It takes two weeks for antibodies to develop and protect us from the seasonal flu. So getting the vaccine in September or October will help provide the best protection for the flu season. Flu vaccination should still be offered throughout the flu season, even into January or later. CDC recommends for all people 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year. We have Seward local providers that have the flu vaccine available now.

COOPER LANDING SCHOOL
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful fall colors! As there is not much news, I am reiterating last week's information:
Canceled
School Picture Day has been canceled at this time. It may be re-scheduled at a later date.
Cooper Landing School Website
Our new website is up and running! If you'd like to take a look, please follow this link: https://kpbsd.org/schools/cooper-landing/
if you wish to volunteer in any capacity or participate in any field trips, you must complete the volunteer background check annually.
Step 1:
Navigate to the KPBSD website and choose the “volunteers” tab at the top of the page. There are instructions for new volunteers and returning volunteers. Here is a link for your convenience: Volunteer Application
Step 2:
Once you have completed the application, please fill out the Chaperone/Volunteer Indemnification Statement that was emailed to you and return it to Mrs. Tucker. You can either email it to her at dtucker@kpbsd.org or bring it to the school.
Hope School
Happy Monday!
Our first PTO meeting will convene September 22nd at 3:45pm. Most likely we will hold the meeting in the gym. You are required to wear a mask when visiting the school. All parents/guardians are invited to join us! We will get started as quickly as possible, but will need the kids to clear out before we can begin (safety protocols).
We could use a few good subs! If you're interested in subbing for any of the positions at our school (teacher, custodian, aide, secretary), please submit an application! You can find the information here: https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/departments.aspx?id=21717
We would so appreciate your help covering if we have employees out sick, or in need of personal leave. Thank you!
There are still quite a few parents who have not filled out a Volunteer Application. You will need to do this before you're able to participate in any school related activities, field trips or events. You can find the application online here: https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/employment.aspx?id=19556. Once you fill out the paperwork, email Molly your confirmation message at mtrostel@kpbsd.k12.ak.us.
If you have questions about school risk levels, you can find the KPBSD Dashboard here: https://covid19.kpbsd.org/dashboard
