Meadow Park News

Principal's Corner
Hello Eagle Families,
Thanks for attending our Back-to-School Night! It was great to see so many families visiting with our staff and hearing about the coming year.
Last night, we kicked off our annual Jog-a-Thon Fundraiser. This is our only PTO fundraiser for the year. On Wednesday, your student should have received a packet from their advisory teacher with instructions for fundraising for the event. Our Jog-a-Thon happens on Friday, October 5th and, in addition to our students completing ¼ mile laps, we have a school day filled with guest speakers and fun activities for our students. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please head here to sign up.
If you were in attendance last night, you also heard a little bit about Meadow Park being an authorized IB World School. Part of being an IB school is that we share a common set of teaching practices with other IB schools across the world. One of these is that we recognize, describe, and identify behaviors of successful learners through the IB Learner profile. We ask students to strive to be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective and will teach about each of these through Advisory classes.
In addition to advisory lessons, we spotlight a Learner Profile each month and award our Meadow Park Student-of-the-Month for each team by identifying the student who most exhibits that trait. For September, we will be looking for students who are Open-Minded. At the end of the month, those students recognized will receive an official “Meadow Park All-Star” T-Shirt. It’s great to see our students wearing those shirts on Meadow Monday!
I want to again thank the many of you who attended our event yesterday evening. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Make it a great week!
Jared Freeman
Principal

IB Learner Profile
The Learner Profile Attribute of the Month of September is Open Minded. This week in advisory students began to explore this month’s featured learner attribute: Open-Mindedness. Students were introduced to the traits of being open-minded through a video clip and asked to take one action this week where they could be more open minded. Check in with your student about where they had an opportunity to be open-minded.
