Newsletter Term 2 Week 10

Patumahoe School 7th of July 2021

Principal's Desk

Kia ora everybody

Wow! It has been cold. The heatpumps have been working hard the last few days. We are not moaning though, cold and dry is far better than cold and wet. There have been a few colds around so the upcoming term break couldn't have come sooner.

Congratulations to all of our speech finalists who got on stage at the speech evening last Wednesday. You all did a superb job. Ben Hunter came out as the winner on the night with his speech entitled "Why Kiwi slang should be our 4th official language".

Ben presented his speech at the Franklin Speech Final last night and did the unthinkable!

Yes, he won!! This was Ben's 2nd year representing our school in the Franklin Speech event and what a great achievement in his final year to beat out a large number of excellent speakers.

The success stories keep coming. We had two mixed hockey teams that competed in the Franklin Hockey Tournament yesterday. Both team won their divisions and came away with new hockey sticks. Thanks to Vaun Cooksley and Bronwyn Black for managing the two teams and also the support parents on the day.

While we are basking in the success of both Ben and the hockey teams, the Caretaker's Cup Rugby boys and girls are quietly going through the motions ahead of tomorrows all or nothing clash against Pukekohe Hill School. The action gets underway with the girls game first at 12pm. Wishing them the best of luck.

I hope you get a bit of rest and relaxation in with your family over the break. Please keep your kids reading over the next two weeks. Perhaps a visit to the library on a wet day might be worthwhile. Load up on reading material when you are there. Also consider visiting the Warehouse, Whitcoulls, or local opshops and find some jigsaw puzzles. They are great for the brain as they develop visual patterning, concentration and patience. I just finished a big one with my kids recently and will embark on a large golf themed jigsaw puzzle this week.

Take care, stay warm and healthy and I will see you back on the 26th of July.
