Deadly Places On Earth

By: Jake, Michael, Connor

Intro

Some places in the world are very beautiful and rich in culture. But they have to face earthquakes and volcanoes some of the most destructive forces on earth. just a few of the most destructive forces on earth. Earthquakes are deadly, collapsing several buildings at a time or just spilling your coffee. Volcanos are mass volumes of rock and lava spitting disasters waiting to happen. Haitai and Hawaii are both extremely beautiful but also some of the most dangerous places on earth. Hawaii has the largest volcano known to man and Haiti has had earth shattering earthquakes.

Haiti

Why People Live In Haiti

Haiti is a very beautiful country with many large landmarks, oceans, and lakes. Even though Haiti is a rather poor country some parts of Haiti are very wealthy and have amazing houses. Haiti also has a very rich culture and many kind citizens. Haiti has a very large amount of extremely beautiful beaches and rivers, lakes, etc. After the large Earthquake Haiti had they still kept moving and eventually got back to normal.

Tectonic Plates

Haiti does not have very many earthquakes but when they do they are usually convergent and very large. But again they are a very poor country so they do not exactly have the right equipment to prepare people of their country for earthquakes. The most damaging earthquake in Haiti was in 2010. The tectonic plates of North America and the Caribbean's caused one of the largest earthquakes in Haiti to begin.

Danger

Although Haiti is very beautiful and has a rich culture it is a very dangerous place. Even though they only have an earthquake about every year they almost always end up causing mass destruction and mayhem. The most recent earthquake in Haiti caused thousands of people to die and several billions in damages. Although the earthquakes in Haiti are not always that large most of the population of Haiti is very poor and live in small not sturdy houses that can not protect them during earthquakes. Also Haiti does not only have earthquakes as a threat, they have had several volcano eruptions as well. Around the same period of time as the Haiti earthquake in 2010 there was also a large volcano eruption that killed many.

Hawaii

Why Live in Hawaii

Hawaii, a popular vacation spot of those on a honeymoon or just wants to get some sun. Tourist can go to the beach in shorts and a t-shirt and sandals because there is no snow all year long. There is no need for a big bulky coat in Hawaii.

Tectonic Plates

Hawaii in located in the pacific ocean on the pacific plate. Having an island formed by a volcano in the middle of a tectonic plate doesn't happen very often due to most underwater volcanos being formed on the boundary line of a plate. Hawaii is located on a hot spot, a hot spot is a place in the mantle where it is hotter than other places and due to that there is more magma which creates more volcanic activity and creates more volcanos and therefor it created Hawaii. Hawaii’s volcanoes have become a popular attraction because the spew lava instead if shooting it up and out of the mantle. Due to the magma/lava tourist can walk right up to it.

Danger

Hawaii has several volcanos active 1 even reached a 9.0 in 2009 and killed hundreds but Hawaii has several volcanos erupt every month but there not destructive as well as earthquakes but not felt. Hawaii was formed by volcanos. Hawaii is still growing every year by active volcanos seeping lava and slowly heading towards the coast. It adds 2’’ to 5’’ every year to its coast. So is this the best spot to go on a vacation.

Hawaii - CK

Intro:

Some of the worlds most Beautiful Places lay in the shadow of the most devastating objects. for example Hawaii is an island chain made solely from volcanoes, it is also a busy tourist attraction.

Location:

People want to live on Hawaii because it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the world. one attraction most tourists can count on seeing is Kilauea erupting on January 3rd it has been officially erupting for 31 years! another reason tourists vacation on Hawaii is because the weather is always perfect. one more reason is because many people want to see the tallest object in the world, Mauna Loa, which from bottom to top 56,000 feet tall!

Tectonic Activity:

Hawaii is made up of 2 volcano chains, the Loa chain and the Kea chain. they were both created by a stationary but dangerous “hot spot”, this is the hot spot that was believed to have caused the dinosaurs to go extinct. the pacific plate is gliding over the hot spot at a rate of 4 inches a year. this is causing more chambers for magma to flood into the volcanoes making it dangerous to live there at this time.

Why its Dangerous:

A hot spot is a chamber of magma that refills daily, hot spots can last for millions of years. there are more than 5 hot spots active at any given time.Mauna Loa is predicted to erupt in the next 5-10 years making it a bit dangerous to vacation there from the time being. Mentioned earlier, Kilauea is destroying almost all housing, buildings, towns, and any other structure on the southern part of the big island, as of this year it has been erupting fr 31 years. In 8 years kilauea cost hawaii 61 million dollars, 1983-1991. in 1790 kilauea had an eruption that killed 80 people. there should be a new volcano adding to the big island soon “Loihi” is what it is named it should surface in 10-100 years.

Conclusion

Some places in the world are very beautiful and rich in culture. But they have to face earthquakes and volcanoes some of the most destructive forces on earth. just a few of the most destructive forces on earth. Earthquakes are deadly, collapsing several buildings at a time or just spilling your coffee. Volcanos are mass volumes of rock and lava spitting disasters waiting to happen.
