Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 18th January 2019
Cross Curricular Forest Schools
This week, one half of the Year 5 class practised their fire building skills and shelter building, which is something they have also been learning about in their Jungle Survival Handbook in English. The other half went on a bird hunt, identifying the issues that birds face at this time of year which links to their life cycle Science topic.

Christingle Service
We are so pleased that this is becoming an annual tradition. The Cathedral are sourcing oranges and other materials to make Christingles with the children next Friday. Our thanks to them and the volunteers needed to make sure over two hundred children have made a Christingle.
We will look after the children (Reception to Year 6) after school on Monday 28th January before heading up to the Cathedral for the service. With thanks again to the Cathedral who are paying for the food, and the school kitchen staff who are working longer hours for us, we will provide everyone with a free jacket potato (choice of cheese, baked beans or coleslaw filling) before we walk up to the Cathedral in time for the 5pm service in the nave.
We are assuming that all main school children will be staying on at school and eating the jacket potato before the service unless you notify us otherwise. A letter has gone home today with more details. Please note that you only need to return the slip if your child is NOT attending the service.
You are warmly invited to join us in the Cathedral for this very special service. Children will go home with parents from the Cathedral at 5.30pm so if you cannot attend the service, please make sure you come to the Cathedral not school for pick up.
There will be no Oscar's after school on Monday (except for regular Nursery Oscar's attenders) as all children will be here anyway. Would regulars at Oscar's on Mondays please contact Mrs Rich if they have any questions about this change, thank you.
Nursery children will not be staying after school as we feel this would be rather a long day for them all. However, it would be lovely if parents brought them along to the service themselves.
Spring Term Parent Teacher Appointments
We will send home the children's books on Friday 8th February so you can have a good look through them. You may have some questions for the teacher based on what you see. There will not be a pupil report this half term.
As Friday 15th February is a training and appointment day, school is not open for children. However, we will run Oscar's from 8am to 5.30pm. Please note that we were fully booked on the training day in October and had to turn away everyone who arrived without booking. We will notify all parents as soon as the booking site is 'live'.
Oscar's
On Friday 15th February, Oscar's will be open 8am to 5.30pm (£20 full day, £15 half day). Places will be limited to 30, so as soon as booking opens, all parents will be emailed and it will be 'first come, first served'!
It will not be possible for us to have a holiday club in the February half term holidays, but we are looking to open for a couple of days in the Easter holiday. This has yet to be finalised, so we will confirm as soon as possible.
