Hallway Happenings PHJH Edition
Do You Know What Inspired The Patriot's Pathway?
Good Evening Patriots,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and before we get to the meat and potatoes of the newsletter, I think it is only appropriate that we take time to have a moment of silence for our beloved Green Bay Packers who played their final game against the 49ers this weekend and lost in the last two minutes.
As the youngest team in the NFL, they had a fantastic run, and I raise my giant block of cheese hat to them. Thank you for taking moment to honor my Packers...It is the last year that you will have to hear from this crazy cheese head, unless the new Principal is a Packers fan (which if you ask me would be the BEST case scenario EVER.) Perhaps I could get Mr. Marshall to rewrite the job posting to include that as a job requirement. 😂😂😂
In the words of Matthew McConaughey,...
Alright, alright, alright, I will focus and get back to newslettering. (Yes it's a word. Okay it isn't, but I use it, and I like it, so I'm rolling with it.) As we head into this next year, and we as a school are FINALLY starting to see the Patriots Pathway program take shape, in the faces of our students, it is more magical and inspiring than I think any of us could have imagined.
Is it perfect?
No.
Does it still need some refining?
Yes.
Is the magical part starting to happen?
You bet your bottom dollar it is!
If you are anything like me, as a parent, you might be asking yourself, what is the "magic" that is happening, then please allow me to explain.
When we started down the path of making the dream of the Patriots Pathway a reality and saw where this road was going to diverge, we VERY quickly realized that to make this happen, we would have to chose the path that had been be less traveled (thanks a lot Robert Frost for giving us a heads up on which path to take!).
The dream was simple: Create a space that acknowledges and honors some simple truths the facts...Each of our students are INDIVIDUALS with unique talents and interests where they excel, as well as areas where they needs some extra supports. We wanted to create a space where we would offer an education that fit each student at perfectly as their favorite pair of jeans.
To do this we needed to this we needed to be able to:
- Get students to believe that they were far more capable of taking the steering wheel in their education than they thought they could be.
- Offer more choices of specialized electives to encourage curiosity and bravery.
- Offer a full spectrum of academic rigor of classes so students can stretch where they want, and also get the help where they need.
- Create Pathways that give students classes to explore different types of skills that would help them in a variety of careers, give them a boost of specialized skills for high school classes, and as an added bonus, we have found that this is also ending up being the place where students are finding "their people."
We are now in our second year of the Patriots Pathway, and here is what we are seeing, which is a vast difference from what we were seeing before.
- Students are not just taking electives because they are required, they are taking electives, and then taking the next level of the elective, and then entering competitions, and our programs are exploding with students that have skills that are so advanced, I feel a little bad for the high school teachers that are going to have to try to challenge them.
- We have more students working hard to move out of support classes, and we have students that have never taken Honors classes, asking/begging to be moved to honors classes.
- We have new students coming to our school because they have heard we offer opportunities for students to have more choices with their levels of classes, and types of classes.
- We are seeing even mixes of girls and boys in classes like Robotics, Strength and Conditioning, and specialized Sewing classes.
Students are being brave, taking risks, and excelling in ways they have not previously experienced in the past, which is the heart of the Patriot's Pathway. We have beautiful, amazing, brilliant and world changing students, our job is to give them the tools and support they need until they realize that, and then get out of their way.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of watching your students start down their path to greatness. If you have a moment, could you please sit down as a family and ask them to remember us, the little guys, when they make it big and take over the world.
We can not wait to see all of your stunning faces in the morning!
As Always Patriots

Buenas noches Patriotas,
No.
Recuerda...
