Principal’s Prose
Welcome back! We are almost there Team! With the finish line coming into clear vision, the handful of days remaining in the school year promise to be just that, a “hand-full”!
I appreciate you! As the calendar clearly articulates, Sudie TAG:Season 1 is going out in style; filled with field day, field trips, awards ceremonies, celebrations and most importantly ACPs. Busy times are indeed ahead, as fulfilling our first finale will require focus, attention to detail and lots of energy!
As we stand here at this juncture, so close to the completion, I can’t help but to think back to where it all started. Over a year ago, sitting across from our leader Dr. Hinijosa and Chief of Schools Ms. Elizalde, I had one question before the end of my last interview for principal, “How will you know if the the school is successful at this time next year?” Though I had my own vision of what I thought great would look like, I couldn’t help but be be curious of his mark. I will never forget Dr. Hinijosa staring and sharing these three indicators of success: (1) If there’s great and renewed interest from families within the community to have their children join Sudie, (2) If the school’s data (academic and surveys) reads on par or above the existing TAG vanguard model (at Travis)...and (3) If there are at least 200 applications next year AND a generated waiting list, then it can be said that the school year has been successful. Well Team, assuming that the data projections are on par with what we believe we have earned, it is safe to say that we have indeed had a successful school year! I believe it is all because of all of you!
I appreciate you! If you have ever stayed for any of our open houses, tours or open parent meetings, maybe you’ve heard me say, “the hole was self-aware enough to surround itself with a donut!” That’s one of my favorite saying, as in leadership it is so, so true. You, the faculty and staff make our Sudie world go around and fill the gaps before they can even emerge. I thank you ALL for that, as our diverse team DNA makes the difference everyday, and I absolutely love about us! We have range. If you’d ever peek into my iTunes or Tidal music accounts, you’d find Led Zepplin and Aerosmith situated next to Jay Z and The Roots, AH-HA neighboring Metallica, and Queen sandwiched between Erykah Badu and Brandi Carlile. Our team was constructed with this inclusive idea in mind, as together we make up ultimate “playlist” for students,...and the “hits” we’ve created seem to be endless!
With a little more than a week remaining, keep going hard for each other, embrace the “US” that we are, and reflect on the good, as together we’ve accomplished something very, very special. I appreciate you!
Sincerely,
MJ
