Clarkstown Central School District
October 9, 2020
Dear Clarkstown School Community:
I hope this communication finds you and your family members in good health and spirits.
It has been a rewarding experience to see our students, faculty, staff, and administrators in our schools since beginning our Hybrid Instructional Model on September 29. I am thankful and appreciative of the outstanding efforts by our teachers, staff and administrators to connect with our students during these most challenging circumstances.
I also want to express my thanks to students and parents. Our students are doing an outstanding job adhering to our health and safety protocols including the wearing of masks and practicing appropriate social distancing. I appreciate the support, patience and participation by our parents. Your efforts while assisting your child(ren) with technology during remote learning have been a great support to the teachers. I also appreciate your patience and understanding while waiting longer than normal for the arrival and departure processes at all of our schools.
Moving forward, we will continue to work daily to overcome the many challenges and obstacles that we encounter. As we navigate this journey together, our partnership strengthens along the way while seeking to meet the needs of the students we serve.
I hope you find time to relax and find wellness with family and friends during this three-day weekend.
Stay strong! Stay healthy!
Martin D. Cox, Ed.D.
Bardonia Elementary Will Reopen on Thursday, October 15
As you know, Bardonia Elementary School had a student who tested positive for Covid-19 on October 5th. As a result, students and staff who were directly exposed are on quarantine through October 14th.
We had anticipated opening this Tuesday, but due to staffing issues unrelated to those staff members on quarantine, we are extending the closure. The building will now reopen for in-person hybrid instruction on Thursday, October 15 with the A Cohort.
South High School Will Reopen on Monday, October 19
As you know, South High School had a student in the B Cohort test positive for COVID-19 on October 6th. As a result, students and staff who were directly exposed are on quarantine through October 18th.
We had anticipated opening on Tuesday, but due to staffing issues unrelated to those staff members on quarantine, we are extending the closure. The building will now reopen for in-person hybrid instruction on Monday, October 19th with the C Cohort.
Protocols for Health Screen Omissions/ Consequences for Non-Compliance
In order to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff, it is essential that our employees and students do a temperature check and complete the health screening information in the Share 911 application, the website www.share911.com or if not possible, via paper form PRIOR to boarding a bus or coming to the school building .
Moving forward, it is necessary for the District to impose consequences for students whose parents continue to neglect the reporting process. Principals have conversed about this high priority topic and a continuum of consequences have been created at the elementary, middle and high school levels, and can be viewed here via this link. These include having to pick your child from school or move to 100% remote learning for multiple failures to complete the reporting.
These protocols were added to our Hybrid School Guidelines, a document that was sent to all members of the school community on September 28.
As we go forward, I thank you for your cooperation in taking the required action to help keep our students and staff safe and healthy.
