The Village Bluebird
May/June 2021
Greetings Families
I hope that you and your loved ones continue to be safe and well and that you enjoyed Memorial Day holiday commemorations in honor of those lost during military service and time with loved ones and friends.
The VES family appreciates the home-school partnership we have created during this most unusual year. Your support has helped us keep our students and staff safe while ensuring that teaching and learning were maximized. Our dedicated staff continues to go above and beyond to do what is best for all of our students and school community. Our entire team of educators and support staff were so deserving of the Staff Appreciation Week recognition showered upon them by our school community and the MES PTA. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness!
Since our last Bluebird, we welcomed back more students to in-person learning and a five-day school week! We also celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage, Jewish American Heritage through our inclusive curriculum, morning news broadcasts and main foyer displays. We continue to honor and uplift one another through messages of inclusion, fairness and justice while also condemning all acts of hatred and violence throughout our local and world community. We are looking forward to celebrating all families during Pride Month as well as Juneteenth and Sportsmanship!
As our year winds down, we are proceeding with end-of -year planning and preparations for the 2021-2022 school year, including 3rd grade orientation, 4th grade virtual music concerts, PTA sponsored activities for our 4th graders, Fun Day, class parties and more. Placement, supply lists and other important information can be found below and some are time sensitive. End of Summer Open Houses to visit classrooms and other new school year information will be shared in the coming weeks!
Enjoy the month of June and our transition to what we hope is a safe and enjoyable summer recess! Best wishes to our 4th grade students and families at LMS next year!

The VES Placement Process
As the end of the year approaches, plans for classroom placements are being made. Ms. Lacy and Mrs. Camuto work closely with teachers, supervisors, and guidance counselors to place current 3rd and 4th graders. OHES administrators, Mrs. Scotti and Mr. VanHise, place current 2nd graders into 3rd grade with our assistance. Ms. Lacy and Mrs. Camuto will place all 4th graders into 5th grade with assistance from Lower Middle School administrators, Mr. Richards and Mrs. Romano.
All students will be placed in heterogeneous classes with the best possible teacher match, and a positive group of classmates. Any specific academic needs, as identified by classroom teachers, will be taken into consideration first. We cannot honor requests for specific teachers, and requests for specific students can present a challenge. However, we will consider input regarding special circumstances or information the school does not already have. Pertinent information shared in previous years must be resubmitted via email and received by June 18th.
Please trust us to make the best placement possible for all children. It is important to us that students have successful academic and developmentally appropriate experiences in school with talented and caring teachers. Final placement information will be available in August.

A Walk to Believe 2021! Help VES Support Team LeGrand of the Reeve Foundation
Dear Families,
The VES community welcomed Mr. Eric LeGrand for a virtual assembly, in April. Mr. LeGrand is a former Rutgers University football star, motivational speaker, philanthropist, entrepreneur, sports analyst and author. In sharing his story, he encouraged students to always be their best and to stay positive through challenging times!
We now have a great opportunity to give back, by supporting Team LeGrand of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation during this year's virtual Walk to Believe 2021 on June 12th. The mission of Team LeGrand is to help individuals living with spinal cord injuries and their families and research for spinal cord injury cures.
How can you help us support Team LeGrand and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation?
- Visit the VES Team LeGrand page to make a donation to the Village School team.
- Register on your own for $25.
- Make a cash donation at VES. Teachers can bring any student donations to the main office and we'll get it onto our team donation page.
This is a great way to show our appreciation for Mr. LeGrand's time at VES and his lessons in perseverance, purpose, and inspiration while also supporting this great cause.
Thank you for supporting Team LeGrand!
