Happy Mother's Day

A special thank you to all our MOMS! We love and appreciate you! We know that being a mom during a global pandemic has been challenging and your support with Digital Learning has ensured that our kiddos have continued to learn. Have a great weekend celebrating!

Instructions for Parsons' families:

  • Write your child’s full name (last name, first name), grade level, and homeroom teacher’s name on a piece of paper with a bold marker and place the sign where it is visible through your vehicle’s front windshield. You can also print and use this car tag template. Car tag for student material pick up

  • Follow signs to locate your designated pick-up area.

  • Do not leave your vehicle during pick-up. No students or family members will be permitted to exit their vehicle or congregate with others. This will be strictly enforced for the safety of all.

  • School personnel will come to the window of the car to read the name of the student.

  • When directed, remotely pop the trunk or hatch (preferred) or roll down your back or front window on the passenger side. School personnel will place the student’s items in the vehicle.

  • If your child has any library books, textbooks, classroom items, and/or devices to return, please have them in the back seat or trunk, and notify the school personnel so they can retrieve these items.

  • Parents unable to pick up during assigned times, may call the school and make an appointment to pick up materials the week of May 25th.

  • If your child has any medication in the clinic that needs to be picked up, please contact our clinic directly. The school staff will work with you to pick up the medication at another scheduled time.

Hull Middle School has made the decision to cancel Jumpstart (and their other camps scheduled for this summer). They are hoping to be able to reschedule for before school starts, but with so much yet to be determined, there are currently no definitive plans. If any families had already registered for Jumpstart, their bookkeeper is beginning the process of reimbursing them and they should receive their payments soon.

Kindergarten Online Registration

WHO:

Rising kindergarten children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2020 and their parents or guardians

WHAT:

Register for the 2020-21 school year

WHEN:

Beginning April 7th, complete online registration on the Parsons website. Once we have reopened, we will plan activities to welcome and introduce our new kindergartners to Parsons Elementary. Please check our website for updates on these activities.

WHERE:

Visit the website to register online. If you’re not sure if your child will attend Parsons, visit the county's "School Look-up" online at GCPS SchoolLocator. Be careful, Zillow is not always correct!

WHY:

Completing online registration will help your child’s teacher be ready to welcome your new kindergartner on the first day of school which is Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

HOW:

New this year, much of the registration process, including the uploading of documents needed for registration, will be completed online. Most document attachments (PDF, JPG, DOC, PNG, etc.) are compatible. The file-size limit is 2 MB. Families that are unable to obtain the required immunization and/or screening documents due to the COVID-19 situation will be given additional time to obtain those documents, but should go ahead and begin the online registration process.

NEED HELP?:

Contact our registrar, Raiya Troshin. She can even set up a video chat if needed. raiya.troshin@gcpsk12.org

As our time at home continues, some students might still be wondering, "why do we stay home?" Some days, this might not be an easy question to answer. If you're struggling with answering this question, I've included a very short picture book that may be helpful. In Why We Stay Home by Samantha Harris and Devon Scott, Suzie's older sister helps her to understand what coronavirus is and how by staying at home, the two sisters are helping their neighbors and grandparents stay safe and healthy.

We all know this time has brought about new challenges and struggles. And as difficult as those can be to navigate for adults, they can be just as confusing for students. As the school year draws to a close, we are all missing the end of year traditions that help to provide closure to the year. While it may be difficult to encourage your students to remain engaged in Digital Learning, please keep encouraging them! We are doing our best to continue to provide those end of year traditions to help your student feel a sense of closure for this school year and excitement for next.

I'm also including a Games and Activity Guide for Families. We can all use a break from technology and what better way to take a break as a family then through playing games! Here are some simple and easy activities to help fill some of your time together this summer.

Conversation Starters

  • How do you make friends?
  • When you are sad, how do you make yourself feel better?
  • If you were going to bury a time capsule, what would you put in it?

BONUS: Make a time capsule!

Seven Habits of Happy Kids

During the months of April and May, we've been learning about Habit 6: Synergize and Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw! These are two great habits for us to practice during our time at home with family. Check out our guide for more information on how you can use Synergize (working together) and Sharpen the Saw (finding balance in our lives) with your family!

Parsons' Virtual Media Center is Open

Please encourage your students to visit the 'Virtual' Media Center (eCLASS page) as though you were walking into the actual Media Center. Mrs. Ripley and Mrs. Britt will continue to have services such as helping students find just the right eBook, discussions about books, a Virtual Makerspace, Virtual Field Trip options, the eBook Library, and Lunch Bunch Live with 4th and 5th grade Lunch Bunch members. Instead of being just a few steps away, the Media Center is now just a click away!

We hope all our Parsons' Lion Cubs will visit daily.
