SUMMER MATH CHALLENGE
Are Your Students Ready for a Summer Math Challenge?
Did you know that on average students lose approximately 2.6 months of grade-level equivalency in math skills over the summer months? To help remedy the summer math slide, MetaMetrics—an educational research group—offers the FREE Summer Math Challenge, a math skills maintenance program based on grade-level standards that help prepare students for college and careers. The program is targeted to students who have just completed first through eighth grades and is designed to help kids retain math skills learned during the previous school year. With Quantile measures for students now being included in score reports from the Kansas Assessments, this is a perfect opportunity to make these results more actionable and connect with resources to fuel additional student learning. The Summer Math Challenge begins Monday, June 18, and runs until Friday, July 27. As part of the program, parents receive daily emails with fun activities and links to educational resources. Ready to get started? · Download a two-page flyer to share with students and parents. · Visit Quantiles.com/summer-math to learn more and register.

Looking Ahead
School work will continue as normal on Monday. Tuesday is Worlds of Fun. Wednesday is a day for reflection and our relay races. Thursday is the last day of school. Friday will be a day of various summer activities (NO SCHOOL)
Upcoming Events - Important Dates
World's of Fun - Tuesday May 22 - For those with permission slips
On Wednesday May 23rd, the 8th grade students will be participating in the 8th Grade Relays. If students want to participate, they will sign up with three to four other students to compete. Different relays will require students to do a variety of activities including but not limited to running, walking, galloping, jumping over very short (under 1 foot) “hurdles”, jumping in a potato sack, and the three legged race. If you have any questions, please let one of the core teachers know.
8th Grade Recognition - Thursday May 24 - 1:00pm
Please remember
Students are responsible for classes they miss for school related events. They need to speak with each teacher and get any work they will miss BEFORE they attend the event. They do not get extra time for missing class for these reasons.
Box Tops For Education!
Don't forget to send in your box tops! Mr. Barstow has sheets for the students to tape 10 box tops on and turn in. If you send your box tops in, we will get them on the sheets for you!
