SFCS celebrates 26 Years of Growing Together in Faith & Knowledge
Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday and reflect on the many things we are thankful for, I want to tell you how grateful I am for the opportunity to serve at St. Francis Catholic School, together with the amazing faculty and staff the Lord has provided for our school. I admire their selfless service each and every day. I am thankful for our students who come to school ready to learn. Our students provide a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. Thank you for your support as parents, guardians, and grandparents, in creating an outstanding partnership together for our students and school. I am thankful for our volunteers who have the best interest at heart for our students and enthusiastically contribute so much to this school. I am thankful for our donors who support our school's mission and believe in the educational product we provide. I am thankful for our School Advisory Council for their collective dedication and hard work in making sure our school has everything we need in support of our school's mission and as Catholic educators. Finally, I am thankful for Fr. Mike, Fr. Christopher, and Fr. Max from St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church who support our school, love our students, faculty, and staff, and shepherd us with open hearts.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration, surrounded by those you love!
Yours in Christ,
Andrea Smith, M.Ed., LPC, NCC
Principal

Junior Beta Club - Boxes of Joy!
Thank you to the Junior Beta Club, under the direction of Mrs. Amanda Keefer, for coordinating, collecting, and distributing 126 Boxes of Joy! We came together as a community to support this wonderful organization in helping to bless children in need during this Christmas season. A big thank you to all the students and families who participated!
Responsibility
Since we have a short week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, we are carrying last week's virtue over for the two days we have of school this week.
Responsibility: Be accountable for one's personal actions at home, at school, and in relationships.
Our Prayer :
Dear Jesus,
Please help me to be faithful in all the responsibilities you have entrusted to me this day.
Amen

Mrs. Karlya Gaherty - 2nd Grade Teacher
Mrs. Gaherty was born and raised in Pennsylvania and attended Catholic schools straight through college. Mrs. Gaherty attended St. Francis College in Loretto, PA where she met her husband, Allan, on a radio trivia contest. After marriage, they moved to New York and settled on Long Island. On the Island, Mrs. Gaherty taught kindergarten for many years, again in Catholic schools. In 2012, the Gaherty's moved to South Carolina and Mrs. Gaherty was blessed to start teaching Second Grade here at SFCS. Among the many educational responsibilities Mrs. Gaherty has to teach her students; she prepares her students to receive the Eucharist for the first time!
Mrs. Gaherty loves to travel, read, get lost in the tranquility of the beach and listen to music. She enjoys hard rock and heavy metal and has attended many concerts over the years! She is a New York Yankees fan and admits to missing the stadium and feeling the energy of the crowd of fans.
Mrs. Gaherty has always felt a special bond with St. Francis of Assisi because she shares his love for animals. One thing that Mrs. Gaherty always tries to do is instill in her students that we are ALL called to be stewards of God's world.
When Mrs. Gaherty counts her blessings this Thanksgiving, you can be sure that she will count her St. Francis family. Twice...
We are grateful for this wonderful teacher who shepherds her students so well!
1st Grade - Honoring Veterans and Mystery Reader
The first graders shared pictures of family members who are veterans.
They also enjoyed hearing a story, read by our mystery reader, Mrs. Wolfkiel.
2nd Grade - Pilgrims
The second graders wrote about their life if they were a pilgrim on the Mayflower, and their journey to new beginnings in the land of America. We are grateful for all of them!
3rd Grade - Butterflies!
Third grade has been learning about the lifecycle of animals and plants. They acquired butterfly larvae form the Carolina Science Center and observed the life stages they progressed through to become adults.
3rd Grade - Favorite Book Presentations
The 3rd grade created and presented dioramas, a game board, or book box of their favorite book. Take a look at the creativity of these students!
4th Grade - Science - Investigating Conductors and Insulators
5th Grade - Career Friday - Mrs. Metzger - Civil Engineer
Mrs. Metzger joined the 5th grade class and presented an interesting, in-depth view of Civil Engineering. The students learned that everything we utilize in our modern society is designed by Civil Engineers. The infrastructure we use every day: roads, buildings, airports, bridges, and drinking water systems, to name a few, were brought about by the foresight and ingenuity of Civil Engineers. Thank you, Mrs. Metzger for inspiring the 5th grade class to excel in this dynamic field.

ANNUAL FUND
Thank you to all who have given to the SFCS annual fund so far! We are excited that the SFCS faculty and staff have almost reached their goal of 100% participation! The annual fund is one of the most important gifts we ask of our St. Francis community. Gifts to the St. Francis Catholic School Annual Fund provide students access to opportunities that distinguish the SFCS educational, spiritual, and social experiences. Your gift to the SFCS Annual Fund today, will make an impact on the lives of many young people at our school.
Bake Club
This week the Bake Club made pie crusts. Parents, ask your student(s) to showcase their pie-crust making talents for your family's Thanksgiving feast!
