Course Description
How can the written language be changed according to context, audience, and purpose? In this course, students explore the evolution of language in fiction and nonfiction, assess rhetorical and narrative techniques, identify and refine claims and counterclaims, and ask and answer questions to aid research. Students also evaluate and employ vocabulary and comprehension strategies to understand figurative, connotative, technical, and content area-specific meanings of words and phrases.

Grading
School Calendar
Even though you may work 24/7, we do still have a calendar at Provost with various holidays listed. When there is a holiday, you probably won't be able to reach me, and I may not be grading anything that day. Make sure you take a look at the calendar to know those dates.

Once a month, we will have a live seminar. I will email you information about the time and place of the seminar in advance so you can plan accordingly. These seminars will be very important for your to attend and will be counted as Extra Credit!

The 1st and 3rd nine weeks seminars will be held in Mrs. Goforth's classroom. The 2nd and 4th nine weeks seminars will be held in my classroom. You will be reminded of this routinely....no worries!
Course Breakdown
This course is broken up as follows:
- 4 Total Parts
- 3 Units in each Part
- 10 Lessons in Unit 1 and 2
- 15 Lessons in Unit 3
- Each Unit Ends with an exam
- Resulting in 3 exams per Part
