Masks are Still Required

Please send your child to school in a mask every day.

If you have extra child-sized disposable masks to donate, please send them to the Main Office. Thank you for your assistance as we continue to do all we can to keep our kids healthy.

While under a mask mandate, our Operations Plan states that we will continue to notify our families when there is a positive case but are no longer required to quarantine during school hours.

This protocol would change if the mask mandate was lifted. Please see the Operations Plan linked below for more specifics.

NEW COVID Classroom Notifications

With recent changes to COVID quarantine and notification policies, we will be sending a general notification to the entire classroom when a positive case has been confirmed.

  • Students will no longer will be asked to quarantine if the exposure was during the school day (7:30 AM-2:00 PM).
  • Close contacts will not be individually notified with exposure during the school day.
  • Close contacts outside of the school day will still be required to complete a 5 day quarantine with enhanced precautions upon return for an additional 5 days.
  • Positive cases are required to complete a 5 day quarantine with enhanced precautions upon return for an additional 5 days.

We have added an additional page to each school’s website. This page will be updated daily with any new COVID notifications that happen anywhere at SCE.

  • Check any time to see the latest COVID update for SCE.
  • The new webpage will also replace the Skylert system of notification of close contacts.
  • Please continue to contact SCE and complete the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form to report COVID-19 cases and exposures.

Thank you for helping to keep the SCE Community informed and healthy.

Indiana Radon Poster Contest

We need your student’s help explaining science through art!

The 2022 Indiana Radon Poster Contest is here! This is a fun, educational, and potential prize-winning opportunity for our students.

Radon is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas that is produced by naturally decaying uranium in the soil and can be drawn into homes through cracks in the foundation.

Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Approximately 1 in 3 homes tested have radon levels at or above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L in Indiana.

In order to spread the message about radon’s health hazards, the American Lung Association is calling on Indiana students age 9-14 to create a radon poster that will increase public awareness of radon gas and encourage people to test their homes.

If you choose to participate, please send your posters to central office Attn: Bob Rice by March 4. I will collect all submissions and send them to the American Lung Association by the March 18 deadline.

Full Contest details and additional radon information is available on the contest website at: lung.org/radon
