Otsego High School

Weekly Parent Newsletter

From the Desk of Mr. O'Shea

Reminder to all parents that next week on Wednesday September 16th, Otsego Local Schools will be on a Two Hour Delay Schedule. Students report to school two hours later than usual and the teachers will be reporting at their usual times for Professional Development. Busses will also be running two hours later than usual.

The picture in my message this week shows our students from last night at the "Bash BG Bonfire". We had nearly half our students attend. It was a great night filled with School Spirit. Special thanks and shout out goes to our local heroes from the Washington Township Fire Department for assisting us and keeping our kids safe. Thank You.

I hope you all have a great weekend. #OtsegoKnights

Checking Homework

Parents if you want to check on your child's homework. Please access their "Google Classroom" all the teachers are posting their assignments there. You will need to know your child's username and password to get into their classroom but once you are in you will see all their classes on their dashboard and whatever the teachers have posted. You can access this from any computer. All you need is internet access to get into their classroom. If you are having any issues getting into Google Classroom, let us know and we will work to fix it immediately.

1:1 Chromebooks for Kids

Otsego Local Schools Chromebook Agreement Form/Insurance Waiver

If they do NOT turn this form in they DO NOT get a Chromebook. Please fill out and return ASAP. We reduced the cost to insure them as well. It is $20. (checks to OLS) It's ten dollars less than last year. We do not want these to become a financial burden, but we do need to cover the costs of damaged devices.

ACT PREP

In addition to our ACT Prep course. The University of Toledo is offering an ACT prep course. I have attached the flyer containing more information including dates/times.

High School Staff Professional Development

The OHS Staff has begun what I consider to be a very exciting undertaking for professional development. The district has added six 2 hour delays to our schedule throughout the year for the purpose of professional development. The first of these is next week, Wednesday September 16th. The HS staff has selected 5 courses and books to study based off our data and teacher need/interest. I have attached a list of these books so that you can keep in the loop with what we are discussing. Feel free to reach out to us about the books. I think it is important that you all know what is being done during our professional development time. We have a very passionate and dedicated staff who are life long learners and I am very excited to participate in these book studies alongside them and grow as a staff.

News from Transportation

Parents please talk to your child(ren) about eating/drinking on the bus to and from school. Simply put, it is prohibited and against the law. Our transportation department will be enforcing this rule and I do not want kids getting tripped up by this. Despite past practices current Ohio Law prohibits eating and drinking on the bus. This includes athletes to and from Athletic events.

News from Athletics

Every Wednesday, ALL sports will wait until 3:00pm to start their practices. This will allow for students to seek out teachers after school for help with their school work and not feel as rushed to get out to practice as well as allow our athletes to possibly get involved in other clubs and organizations which will be allowed to meet after school during this time. Athletic teams may hold study tables after school on Wednesdays until 3:00pm.

The Athletics Department will also begin running a weekly eligibility list identifying all athletes that have either a "D" or "F" in a class and notify coaches and players. Coaches will be expected to work with their athletes to get these kids off the eligibility list.

The Otsego Softball team is selling Otsego Decals once again this year. Show your Otsego Pride! They are $5. Click Here for the order form. This is a fundraiser for the team. Thank you for your support!

‘Otsego Athletics’ is on Twitter and Facebook. Follow for high school scores and other athletic department information. Also, if you’d like to receive athletic news and updates by email please email athletics@otsegoknights.org to be added to the list.
