Irish Impact On Australian Culture
How The Irish Community Influenced Australia
In the 18th century most of the settlers or convicts were Irish and they contributed to Australia's development in many different areas. In the 19th century about a third of Australia's population was Irish.
Festivals
Every year on the 17 of March is St Patrick's Day.
On the day we celebrate the death of St Patrick who was one of Ireland's patron saints, people from all over the world celebrate with parties, food, games and Irish Dancing.
The four leaf clover (or Shamrock) is also a big part of St Patricks Day as it was said to bring you luck and fortune. It also is the reason why we wear green on the day.
In Australia we have Irish pubs, Irish beer and Irish coffee.
