A Few Words On...
As the leader of St. Stanislaus Kostka Academy, I would just like to share a few words and thoughts on several topics and happenings in our school community.
Goodbye to Students and Hello to Summer
It was clear to me that the faculty and staff at St. Stan's Academy experienced both joy and sadness throughout this past week. They were joyful as we completed another successful year and proud of the progress and growth their students showed. Sadness crept in, however, as teachers recognized that the students they had spent the last 180 school days with would be moving on and no longer an intricate part of their own classrooms. Their emotions as well as those of some of our students are understandable given the connections forged over this past school year.
I sincerely hope that you enjoy your extended time with your children over these summer months. As the prayer above says, embrace the games, the swimming, the weather, and whatever else might bring you and your family joy. Please note that the Principal's Pad newsletter will no longer be weekly until we get closer to the new school year beginning. We look forward to welcoming you back to St. Stan's Academy on Monday, August 15.
Preventing Summer Learning Loss
Although these summer months award our students with a much needed break, there is also the very real potential for "learning loss" and academic regression. This occurs if students are not actively engaged in learning opportunities over the course of the summer and instead spend a lot of time watching television or playing video games. I want to encourage families to do what you can to continue to challenge your children over these next few months, so that they can continue their upward progress. Please see some helpful resources in the Home-Learning-Hub below.
To help fight learning loss, students will be able to access their i-Ready lessons through the end of July. They only need to log-in to the i-Ready platform via the i-Ready app or a web browser on a computer. If your child does not remember their login information, please contact me via email and I can share their information with you. For the best results, I highly recommend that you provide time for your child to do a minimum of 45 minutes of math and 45 minutes of reading each week.
Gentle Reminders
Financial Aid Agreements
If you have not heard from us yet regarding tuition assistance for next school year, please do not worry. We will be sure to send out those agreements and hear appeals within the next week or so. If you have a specific concern, please do not hesitate to contact our main office.
Summer Camp Begins June 21
The St. Stan's Academy Summer Camp will officially begin on Tuesday, June 21 and last until July 29. Our school office will be open from 8am to 3pm while summer camp is in session. Next week (June 13 to June 17), however, the office will only be open from 8am to 12pm, Monday through Thursday.
Congratulations to the Class of 2022!
Weekly Parent Survey - Before School Supervision
We are still interested in learning more about the needs of our families for next school year. If you have not answered this survey question from last week, please do so now.
Would you utilize before school services if it were offered? How much are you willing to pay for this service? Please use this link to respond to this week's brief survey.
St. Stan's Athletics: Co-ed Soccer Team
St. Stan's Academy will be forming a school soccer team for the 2022 season. This is a co-ed league, meaning our team will consist of both boys and girls between grades 5-8. In order to field a successful team, we need to have a roster of 15-20 players. The cost for participation will be $75 which will pay for league fees, uniforms, and equipment for practices. Registration and payments are due by Monday, July 25th at the latest. Please contact our Athletic Director, Mr. Ryan Reed at rreed@ststanschicago.org if you are interested.
