Universal Design for Learning
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people based on scientific insights into how we learn. UDL provides the opportunity for all students to access, participate in, and progress in the general education curriculum by reducing barriers to instruction. An overview of UDL, considerations for implementation, and lesson planning suggestions are parts of this learning opportunity.
Co-Teaching
Co-teaching is an instructional delivery approach in which two or more certified professionals with different knowledge, skills, and talents have joint responsibility, accountability, and mutual ownership for designing, delivering, monitoring, and evaluating instruction for a diverse group of learners. Co-Teaching involves partners who co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess their students. We will learn about the five different models for co-teaching and how teams can be supported through the process.
Instructional Strategies
Now more than ever, evidence-based instructional strategies are necessary to close learning gaps and ensure progress for all students. A variety of strategies will be modeled and discussed. We will relate these to all tiers of instruction. When used with fidelity, there are many benefits to the learning and achievements of all students in the general education setting.
Supplementary Aids and Services(SaS) Consideration Toolkit
The SaS Toolkit is a facilitated process to inform teams as they develop or revise a student's IEP. The goal of this process is to identify services and supports to enable students with disabilities to participate and succeed in general education settings. The SaS process can be useful in assisting IEP teams as they plan for many different situations such as; planning for a student to move into a new grade or school, addressing barriers to a student's participation and learning in general education settings.
