ELD Weekly Bulletin
Title III/ELD Listserv - Week of April 6th, 2015
Reminder: ELL Test Accommodations for OCCTs
As we finalize preparations this week to begin the OCCT testing next week, it is critical to verify that the ELL testing accommodations for your ELLs are already indicated on the student Language Instruction Education Plans (LIEPs) and are being used as a part of regular instruction. The Oklahoma School Testing Program Accommodations for English Language Learners Guide can be accessed here for more details.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has stated that ELL testing accommodations must be documented on the LIEP. To quickly check the list of ELL students who have testing accommodations noted on their LIEP, follow the steps below to pull the Standardized Testing Accommodations Listing in ELLevation:
1. Login at www.ellevationeducation.com
2. Under the Reports tab select Listings
3. From the drop-down menu select Standardized Testing Accommodations
4. Select the grade level desired. If no grade level is selected all students with testing accommodations for the specified test will be listed on the report.
5. Select the test for which you want to query the testing accommodations list
6. Select the year/semester (2014/2015 - Year)
If you pull the query in Firefox or Chrome, you will have the option to export it to a PDF or an Excel file. For schools with large ELL populations, the Excel file might be helpful for sorting and scheduling.
Please remember that testing accommodations for all tests listed in ELLevation will appear in the report. However, students may only receive the accommodations for which they are marked which are restricted to the selection allowable for the specified test.
For any questions or assistance pulling this listing, please contact your Title III Specialist.

Qualifying for ELL 1st Year US Exempt on OCCTs
Students who qualify for the ELL First Year US Exemption are exempt on the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests of Reading, Writing, English II, English III, and the SRI administered by the District. The Title III Office has been working with the Office of Accountability to verify individual student information to identify qualifying students.
If you have any questions regarding qualifying students or would like to request student verification, please email Laura Grisso.
- Students who qualify for this exemption have had less than 12 months of instruction in U.S. schools.
- The 12 months of instruction is figured cumulatively over total enrollment.
- A student may qualify for this exemption only one time during their school career.
- Students from Puerto Rico CAN qualify for this exemption.
- The student's place of birth is not a factor in qualifying for this exemption.
If you have any questions regarding qualifying students or would like to request student verification, please email Laura Grisso.
Gorgeous Visualization of 200 Years of Immigration to the United States
It's easy now to assume that Mexico has always been among the main sources of immigration to America. But as this wonderful chart by Natalia Bronshtein shows, that's not even close to true.
Bronshtein pulled 200 years of government data to put together the visualization. There's an interactive version on her website: you can hover over any color, at any point, and see the exact number of immigrants who became residents from that country in that decade.
