Charger Check-In
October 6, 2023
A Note from Ms. Owens
Thank you all the school families who were able to attend Thursday's Parent-Teacher Conferences. It was so good to speak with families as they moved in and out of the gym. On behalf of our faculty, please know how appreciative we are of your partnership as we all - parents/guardians, faculty and staff - work together to support the children in our school.
On Friday, SCA faculty and staff will participate in EBRS (Evade, Barricade, Resist, Survive) Training from Beacon Training Group. Please keep us in your prayers as we participate in this intense and important work.
Please remember there is no school on Monday, October 9.
On Friday, November 17, there will be NO extended care so we can safely facilitate the set up for that evening's Holiday Wishes Vendor Fair.
We haven't celebrated our Grandfriends since the winter of 2020. We are so happy to bring back an event that invites these special people to spend some time in classes with our students. We will have Grandfriends' Afternoon on Wednesday, October 18. Please scroll down for more details.
- While we will move off campus for the walk, we will not cross any streets. We will follow the same route we used last year. The route will be staffed with adults to keep students safe.
- Our PK students will walk earlier in the day and will walk laps in the parking lot.
- That day, the School Advisory Board will provide each student with an all-beef hot dog and a bag of chips for lunch. The hot dog buns are from Aunt Millie's Bakery. Here is their allergen information. We will have hot dogs with no buns for students who have a gluten-free diet.
- Students who normally get milk will be able to have milk.
- Following the Walk-a-thon, we will have a DJ in the parking lot and all students will receive a popsicle treat. If your child has allergies to certain dyes or fruit juices, please complete this Dye and/or Fruit Allergy Form by Wednesday, October 11.
- If your student prefers not to eat hot dogs, please send your student with lunch that day.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. As this is the first Thursday of the month, I am sharing an article from a Psychology Today blog entilted, "Is It Rude, Is It Mean, or Is It Bullying?". While none of these behaviors are acceptable, it is important for adults and children to recognize the difference between rudeness, meanness and bullying. Knowing the difference can help us better help the children in our lives respond effectively when they experience or witness these unkind behaviors.
A Bit More News...

- Market Day is back and eager to partner with SCA families. Scroll down for more information.

Grandfriends' Afternoon - Wednesday, October 18
- First visiting session: 1:30-1:50
- Passing period/transition: 1:50-2:00
- Second visiting session: 2:00-2:20
- Grandfriends exit the building: 2:20-2:30
Grandfriends who have more than two classrooms to visit can move between rooms mid-session.
If students are going home with grandfriends, we ask that they meet their students outside at regular dismissal at 2:45.
If a grandfriend is visiting a PK3 or PK4 classroom, we encourage them to visit that room during the 2:00-2:20 session since our youngest students have rest time in the afternoon.
We will have a small token of thanks to hand to the grandfriends as they exit the building.
