NEWS FROM THE HEADS

PAUL BEVIS

It can be easy as a teacher to get into ‘bah humbug’ mode over Christmas. The very nature of school means that everything starts end November, beginning December (and often earlier). Planning for Christmas shows, lunches, filling of gift boxes, decoration of classrooms, putting up of trees etc etc.

“Take every chance, drop every fear and always reach for the stars!”

Elves! Glitter! Secret Agents! Angels! And even a disco ball… This can only mean one thing: Christmas production week! Without wanting to repeat myself too much, weren’t the Christmas shows just fantastic? The girls sang, danced and acted with great skill and confidence. Their energy did not dwindle and they gave us a real treat of a performance! Christmas has now begun! Next week, we have much to look forward to, highlights of which will be sent to the class reps.

SHEENA WILDING

December arrives and Christmas is upon us. Trees seem to have magically arrived in the halls and classrooms, the children have been busily making all sorts of glittery things and the wonderful pictures they created have been transformed into cards and your orders will be with you on Monday if not collected today.

David Wilding

Last Saturday we heard the very sad news that David Wilding, father of James and Hugh Wilding, and founder of Claires Court with his wife Josephine, had died peacefully overnight at his nursing home in Norfolk. Even after his retirement from day-to-day management of the school in 1989, David retained a keen and active interest in the school’s life, returning to Maidenhead on a frequent basis to participate in strategic meetings and discussions and attend speech days until blindness and increasing frailty made this no longer practical. A full obituary is available for the website and it is planned to celebrate his life at our annual Commemoration Service at the end of next term on 22 March 2016. There will be a Requiem Mass said for David at St Joseph’s Church, Cookham Road, Maidenhead at 11.00 on 23 December. RIP.
