Compassion in the Season of Giving-3 Opportunities to Help

Our social emotional focus for the month of December is compassion. Our students learned that empathy is about understanding how someone else is feeling. Compassion is when you have empathy and take action. Students at Ventana Vista are taking action in 3 ways and you can help us out with our efforts.

1) Girls on the Run are collecting donations of cat and dog food for Pima Animal Control (PACC) through Friday 11/30. Donation receptacles are at the front gate and at the drop off/pick up line.

2) Student Council is collecting new toys for Banner Children's Hospital beginning 12/3. Donation receptacles will be at the front gate. Student Council members will deliver the donations.

3) Adopt a Family--Elementary School Counselors are collecting specific gift items for families at Ventana Vista who are needing extra help this holiday season. Specific classes are adopting specific family members; however, any gift cards for groceries would help all of these families and can be purchased here through our FFO. Donations may be dropped off in the office, if your child's classroom did not receive specific detailed information.

If you are able to help in any way, our students would appreciate it. Help them learn about compassion in a real way!

Placement Into Gifted Programming

Parents,

If you are interested in your grade K-1 or 3-5 child testing for possible placement in one of CFSD gifted programs, testing permission forms are located in the school office or online at the District Gifted Website

http://www.cfsd16.org/index.php/academics/student-support-services/gifted-programming. Please download or obtain a copy, and have your child return it to his/her homeroom teacher.

K-1 Optional Testing Math and reading placement decisions are based on district measures of classroom performance and achievement; and, in line with state law, a test of abstract reasoning ability such as the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is also offered. Since classroom performance tends to be a more reliable indicator of instructional need than cognitive ability testing in the primary grades, CFSD does not require scores of abstract reasoning ability for placement in extended reading or math groups in the primary grades, K-1.

Grades 3-4-5 District administered CogAT test scores are valid for 2 years in grades 3-5, so only students who have not been previously tested this year or last year are eligible to test at this time. Placement into Extended Math and/or Extended Reading classes does not require CogAT testing scores.
