ENCORE Information
Library Media-
K-2 We are focusing on learning the apps on our iPads, starting with ExplainEverything. We are also reviewing book care and practicing checkout and return of materials.
3-5 We are reviewing some of our library tools. The library catalog can be found at library.wausauschools.org, and this link will also allow us a connection to World Book Online, which is a great research tool for our students. It allows them to research online, cite the source and the material comes from a “non-Google” source so students can strengthen the quality of their research.

PE-
K-1 We have been focusing on moving safely in the gym. We are working on locomotor movement walking, jogging, running, and galloping. We are starting to play games of low organization that incorporate those skills.
3-5 We have been working on learning playground games that include two and four square. This week we have started working on the overhand throw.
Reminder to students to wear tennis shoes for physical education class.
Celebrating Culture
- How can parents teach their children to embrace diversity?
- Start when your child is young!
- Find teachable moments, such as breaking the stereotype of pink as a “girl color” and blue as a “boy color,” or talking to your child when he/she sees a person in a wheelchair or wearing ethnic clothing that is different than theirs.
- Listen to music in the car or home from your culture as well as others.
- If your child loves to play dress up, incorporate regalia worn by other ethnicities.
- Sample foods from other countries.
- Have a globe in your home to show your child the location of where something newsworthy happened.
- Encourage your child to have a pen pal from another country
- Attend cultural events around the community with your family.
- Read multicultural books to your children!
Safety Patrol of the week Sept 23-27
This week’s featured safety patrol is Avery P. Avery is a 4th grade student in Mrs, Ninnemann’s class. Avery’s favorite subjects are math, social studies and writing. Whens he is not at school, Avery enjoys spending time with family and eating ice cream. Avery says she enjoys being on safety patrol because she likes helping other people cross the street and making sure they are safe. Thanks for your service, Avery!

Parents-
Just a reminder, volunteer opportunities will be posted online throughout the year. Please sign up online and not just with the teaching staff. This keeps everyone accounted for and safe that is in our building.
If you haven't created an account yet, click here and complete the application
If you already have a volunteer account, log in at myimpactpage.com, select the opportunity you are interested in and sign up.
Remember, volunteering in the classroom and going on field trips requires a criminal background check. Complete Step 2 if you plan on this type of volunteerism. They do take time to process so please plan ahead.
