Week of September 14th

CFES Community,

We can all celebrate our first full month of being "back to normal"! It’s been wonderful seeing those sweet smiles walk through our doors each morning as well as our community attending Parent Information Night and the PTO Social. Our staff is committed to doing what’s best for students, no matter what the challenge. The spirit of CFES is alive and well once again here at CFES!

On-Campus COVID Vaccine Opportunities

Tomball ISD has partnered with Gloyer’s Pharmacy to provide the COVID vaccine to TISD employees and all eligible students (12+). This opportunity is not a requirement but an opportunity for students, with parental consent, and for our staff to be vaccinated if they choose to participate.

Eligible students (12+) will receive the Pfizer COVID vaccine, which is a 2-dose vaccination series. The second vaccine should be administered three weeks after the first dose; therefore, Gloyer’s will return to campuses to administer the second dose three weeks after the first shot.

Fully vaccinated individuals who received their second dose more than 8 months ago and desire a booster dose can also take advantage of the opportunity Gloyer’s is providing. The booster shot is only available to those who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Make sure to indicate the vaccine initially received on the registration form. Also, make sure to bring your COVID vaccination card with you.

Gloyer’s will be at on our campus to administer the vaccine on Tuesday, September 21 from 3:30-5:30. In order to receive the vaccine, the registration and consent form must be completed by each staff member and by the parent of the eligible student who wishes to receive the vaccine.

From the Nurse

Each year, students in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade receive health screenings for vision, hearing, growth, Acanthosis Nigricans (1st, 3rd, 5th grades) and Scoliosis (5th grade girls). The purpose of Acanthosis Nigrican screening is to detect a black-brown velvety marker that usually appears on the back of the neck. This marker is called acanthosis nigricans. The marker is caused by too much insulin in the blood. It is a pre-diabetic condition and serves as an indicator of risk for Type 2 diabetes and other chronic health problems. Acanthosis nigricans is usually seen during the pre-adolescence and adolescence. Nurse Jennifer will begin screenings in the next few weeks. If you wish to decline the screening, please send Nurse Jennifer a written note declining the screening.

CFES Cares Peanut Butter Drive

As a part of our CFES Cares Program, we our hosting our annual Peanut Butter Drive! We are excited to encourage our students to help battle food insecurity. According to Feeding America, over 37 million Americans, including more than 11 million children, are food insecure. The USDA defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. We are providing an opportunity for our cougars to bring in jars of peanut butter (not glass) from September 20th to October 1st during September’s Hunger Action Month to fill our community’s food pantries. If you would like to participate, please drop the peanut butter jars off in the bins labeled with your teacher’s name located in the front hallway. The class with the most peanut butter wins a pizza party to celebrate. Thank you for participating in CFES Cares!

Great Expections

CFES will once again be implementing the Great Expectations Model on our campus. Great Expectations, GE, is a program providing life-transforming education. It has two main aspects, a Culture of Respect and a focus on Academic Excellence. Each morning we begin with our virtual Call to Greatness, where students are introduced to our 8 Expectations and Life Principles. Throughout the school day students and staff practice implementing these aspects.

Practice #5 (Aug. 30-Sept. 17) Critical thinking skills are taught.

Practice #7 (Aug. 30-Sept. 17) Memory work, recitations, and/or writing occur daily. These enhance character development and effective communication skills while extending curricula.
