What We Will Be Learning
English Language Arts (General and Honors)
Math (General)
Students will extend their prior knowledge of operations with positive numbers to operations with all rational numbers. They will also begin writing, simplifying, and solving algebraic expressions and equations.
Math (Honors)
Science (General and Honors)
How does matter and energy move through an ecosystem? Students explain with evidence how matter and energy cycle in an ecosystem and describe the interactions of organisms to obtain food to survive and grow.
How do organisms interact with other organisms in the physical environment to obtain matter and energy? Students analyze and interpret data as evidence that organisms and populations of organisms are dependent on their environmental resources, explain patterns of interactions with other organisms, and describe cycling of matter and energy flow in an ecosystem.
How is the health of an ecosystem determined? Students construct an argument and evaluate solutions of how biodiversity, ecosystem services and environmental changes can impact the integrity of an ecosystem.Social Studies (General and Honors)
Algebra
In Algebra, students will be covering functions and linear equations on the coordinate plane. Students will be able to write and create relations and functions in different forms, graphing and describing their key features including their intercepts, intervals of increasing and decreasing activity, their minimum and maximums, their rate of change and their overall behavior. Students will be able to create scatterplots by hand and using technology and find the linear regression using both methods.
Students will explore and learn about compound inequalities and absolute value inequalities.
Students will also be working with monomials and exploring the Laws of Exponents and how they differ from other polynomials. Students will add, subtract, and multiply polynomials and understand that polynomials are closed under these operations.
