Evansdale Weekly Newsletter - January 13, 2016

Important Notes from Mr. Clayton

1) We would like to invite you to our Parent STEM Night on January 19th from 6-7 pm. Our guest speaker will be the STEM Facilitator for Region 2, Ms. Kellie Ryan. She will be discussing a variety of things related to STEM including how Evansdale is progressing through the process and she'll also have a STEM related activity for everyone. Please join us for this session as we head towards our goal of becoming a full fledged STEM certified school!

2) Please take a few minutes, we only have 5 responses, to complete our brief STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) survey. We are looking for people that have careers in STEM fields, had careers in STEM related fields, have hobbies related to STEM, or people that simply want to help in our classrooms as the students work through STEM challenges.

Also, if you have friends or other family members that would be willing to help us out, please pass this survey along to them.

3) Our first semester attendance was great! We had 19% of our students with zero absences and 66% of our kids missed 1-5 days. The other side of that is we had 15% of our student population miss more than 6 days. Please try to help us by making sure that

students are only missing school for legitimate sickness. If your child is sick and you have a doctor's note, please send that in with your child when he/she returns to school.

2017 Evansdale Elementary Father+Daughter Dance (New Venue)

The 2017 Evansdale Elementary Father+Daughter Dance will be held at Evansdale Elementary this year due to construction at Henderson Middle School. The dance is on Saturday, February 11th and a fun time is always had.

A formal invite will be sent home in your daughter's January 13th courier. Ticket prices are $18 per family, no matter how many girls a dad brings. In addition, EvansDads have made arrangements with a local florist for dads to present their girls with a rose and baby’s breath and to wear a boutonniere themselves, if they wish. Flower prices are the florist’s list prices for the Valentine’s week. Deadline for turning in ticket, flower/boutonniere requests and payment is February 3rd. Tickets will be sent home the week of February 6th and flowers will be handed out at the dance. The location of the dance is in the cafeteria at Evansdale Elementary School from 2 p.m. till 4 p.m.

Please let us know if you would like to volunteer. Many dads will be 'retiring' this year with the graduation of their daughters and we would like to keep the tradition going. Teachers and Administration are invited to join us as well!

French Immersion Meeting for Prospective Families, January 17th

La Chandeleur: February 2nd, at Evansdale

Bonjour! Our wonderful French Immersion team is trying to organize La Chandeleur.

Also called Crêpe Day, la Chandeleur is a French holiday during which people traditionally eat crêpes and drink cidre. While some say Chandeleur celebrates the return of sunny days (crêpes symbolize the sun), others say that aking crêpes using flour left over from the harvest ensures prosperity in the coming year. There is also the traditional coin ritual: if you can flip a crêpe while holding a coin in your other hand, you and your family will not have to worry about financial problems.

The French Immersion team needs help from the parent community in order to help make this day happen for Evansdale students. Please contact Madame Carnathan via email at:

Welcome to the Nest Ms. Janvier!!

Please join us in welcoming our new 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Nora Janvier, to the Evansdale community. She brings with her several years of both teaching and administrative experience. She recently moved to Atlanta from Dade County Florida. In her free time, her favorite things to do are bake, cook, and clean. We are very happy to have her on the Evansdale staff.
