Son's Smore
Annnnnd we're live...
Welcome to our library home page and the first of many (many) smores that will be coming your way to give you updates on what we've got going on, help you get to know us (the library staff), and promote what you -- the student and staff body -- are interested in. We don't want to limit that to only our school, though; we want to know what you are interested in across the board. We have some interesting projects coming your way, so we hope you will check in with us once a week to see what we're up to.
For starters, I'm Ms. Son (the librarian at GHS) and I will usually be the one writing this newsletter. I named it "Son's Smore" because, well, I was creatively bankrupt when I got a chance to sit down and write this and it's my smore, so I guess I can call it whatever I want. That being said, I have a very vocal, very creative cadre of library aides who have already requested to blog, so... I'm sure they will take over some of the content in the future. :)
For now, we want to welcome you to our new webpage. We are constantly be trying to improve the format and content, but we wanted you to have immediate access to some of our basic tools, such as book request forms, access to Destiny, JSTOR, MackinVIA, and our book and podcast reviews. If you don't listen to podcasts, don't worry. We got you.
Think of podcasts like Netflix for your ears. You can find almost anything and everything you would want to know about/ listen to on a podcast. Just click on the "Podcast Reviews" tab at the top of the screen and you'll find helpful hints for finding podcasts that are right for you. You'll also find reviews (with the hyperlinks) to some of our favorite episodes to get you started.
I chose the background for this first smore because the first word that came to mind when I saw it was "speed". Our world is moving pretty fast. You don't have to know how to navigate EVERY new advancement in technology, but you do need to find the ones that work best for you.
We can help with that.
More importantly, we want to help with that! The library/ learning commons is a place that houses books... but most importantly and historically, libraries are places where information is exchanged and distributed. For centuries, scholars have relied on libraries as safe places where people can find their voice and find the voices of great thinkers who came before them. We hope that you will share your ideas with us here and more importantly, that you will find the confidence to share your ideas with many others along the way.
Please come and meet the legendary library aides when you get a chance. And, hello. :)
We're glad you're here.
"The only thing that you absolutely have to know is the location of the library." -- A. Einstein
