90% Attendance Rule
While we understand and are empathetic to circumstances out of your control, there are attendance laws that all schools must follow.
In addition to compulsory attendance law, districts are required to enforce the 90 percent rule, which states that students in grades K-12 must attend class for 90 percent of the time it is offered to receive credit or a final grade. The 90 percent rule applies to most absences, including excused absences. If the student doesn’t meet this requirement, an attendance committee may grant the student credit or a final grade, depending on the circumstances.

Congratulations to the Hays Marine Corps JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle team for finishing in the top 1% of shooting programs in the nation at the 2023 JROTC National Championships held last week in Camp Perry, OH. The journey to this final round was long. It began in November with over 1100 teams from the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, and Air Force. Of these 1100 plus teams, only the top 112 qualified to attend their respective Service Championships which were held in February. Of these 112 teams, only the top 28 (7 from each service) were invited to the JROTC National 3PAR Championships. Hays Red was one of 7 teams who qualified for the United States Marine Corps.
After posting very solid scores during each day of competition, Hays Marksmanship finished in 8th place nationally. That finish was the top score in the state of Texas among every JROTC service and gave Hays marksmanship their 5th Texas State JROTC championship in the past 6 years. The team was comprised of Brynn Gray, Alexis Guerrero, Kobie Talavera, Sophia Padilla, and Celeste Guerrero. Next up nationally for Hays 3PAR is the National Junior Olympics and Civilian Marksmanship National Championships which are both held 21-25 June. Hays qualified both it's Red and Blue teams for this event. Only 56 teams nationally qualified for these events.
