Missouri Music Notes

November 2017

President's Note

Happy Belated Thanksgiving to you and yours! I hope you had a very special holiday filled with family and good food! In this season of gratitude, I am thankful for all of you! Our shared love for music brings us together. Making and appreciating music gives us an avenue to make some great friendships! A way to give back is remembering Opera in the Ozarks in honor of Giving Tuesday. We also celebrate American Music in November. Be sure to note the follow up details below. Our next events are Founder's Day in January, many award application deadlines, National Music Week and most important: our Centennial Convention in May! Start making plans now!

Remember Opera in the Ozarks for GivingTuesday

Now that ArkansasGives is over and no longer happening, we have to look for other great fundraising opportunities. Giving Tuesday is a global giving movement, built by individuals, families and organization in all 50 states and around the world. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are, as you know, two days for 'getting deals', but #GivingTuesday is a way millions of people around the world join together to give to causes in which they believe, and to celebrate the "reason for the season". To participate, simple go to www.opera.org, click on the yellow Donate button (lower right side of page) then use your credit or debit card to donate. Of course, you can make a donation any day of the year!

Parade of American Music Month

Did you enjoy some great music this month? We'd love to hear about it! Be sure to send in your American Music club report. The report is due to regional chair Carla Johnson by February 28th (address on the form). Why not send it now to make sure you don't forget! If you have any questions, please contact our state chair, Marilyn Caldwell. You are also welcome to post pics of the event on our Facebook page/group. Thank you for all of your efforts in supporting American Music/Composers.

Founders Day

NFMC recognizes our founders in January. Not just the Founders of NFMC or Missouri FMC, but think about the pioneers of your local club! Does your club do anything to honor your founders? Why not consider having a Founders Day program. A suggested program can be found on the national website. Another great way is to donate $1 per member and make the honor roll. These donations provide funds for the Young Artist competition. If you’ve ever heard them, you will know this is a worthy cause!

Centennial Festival Chorus

We are planning a Festival Chorus directed by Mark Hayes for our Centennial Celebration in Kansas City on May 18-19. Would you like to be a part? Stayed tuned for more info in the next newsletter!
