Indian Mills Elementary School- September/October
Welcome Back!
Dear Parents,
Welcome back students and parents to Indian Mills School! It is always exciting to see both new and familiar faces in our hallways.
We are ready for another exciting, fun-filled, and challenging new year. We made a few staff changes and additions over the summer. I am sure you will join me in welcoming all of our new staff members to our school community.
One of the highlights of October for our students is always our Halloween celebrations. When choosing a costume, please keep in mind that what may be okay at home and in your neighborhoods may not be allowed at school. These decisions are focused on the safety of our children.
Masks and face paint may not be worn. Also, no props that can be seen as weapons (swords, knives, etc) will be allowed. Again, our focus is always on the safety of the students. Thank you for your cooperation.
Ms. Moore
We Are Family!
Every Friday, at 8:45, the classic song by the Pointer Sisters is played throughout the school. (Try getting that song out of your head!) Different staff members and students get to share something about themselves over the school speaker. It's important to all of us at IMS that everyone who walks through our doors feels at home. We value the community we have built together!
Staff Changes and Additions
Another change in our second-grade team is the addition of Ms. Marlana Moore. She has held long-term substitute positions and worked in our preschool. This year we welcome her to second grade!
We welcome 2 new staff members through Insight: Lauren Farnham and Ken Schechter.
Parent Advisory Committee
Ms. Moore shares information about past or upcoming school events to gather input from the committee. Parents also share information and feedback, which may be both complimentary or constructive. There are no filters, so everyone can talk openly. Also, there are no restrictions on what can be shared with the community.
Some changes that have already come from PAG:
- More use of the district app, so information is in one place for parents to access
- Ideas to help increase both parent and staff participation with our Home and School
- Fundraising ideas for our new all-access playground
The PAG is committed to improving communication and increasing parent involvement. We work together in a positive way, building our "family" for a common goal: the best for our children.

Nurse's Notes- Mrs. Simpson
Welcome back! I hope everyone’s summer was a great one. I would like to start out the new school year with a few reminders for parents and students.
Parents:
- Please notify me if your child has had any changes in their health status. This would include any new or changed allergies (including food allergies), any fractures or surgeries over the summer, any newly diagnosed conditions or new medication.
- If your child needs to have medication in school, please ensure you have the correct paperwork. It would be best to have the medication to me as close to the start of the school year as possible. Please contact me with any questions.
- If your child has had a physical recently, providing me a copy would keep your child’s medical records as up to date as possible.
- Please remind your child to wash their hands frequently (and/or use hand sanitizer), cover their nose and mouth when they sneeze or cough, and not to share hats, combs, brushes, etc.. These steps will help to reduce the spread of germs and head lice.
I am excited for another great school year and I will do all I can to help make it a safe and healthy one. Please call with any questions or concerns, 268-0220, option 3.
