April 4, 2014 Spring Rec Update

Week One Review: Your Comments, Observations are Encouraged

Well, Week 1 is in the books. Many, many thanks for all your flexibility and leadership in making sure the first week of Spring Recreational Soccer went relatively smoothly. There are always glitches as those that have registered sometimes don't show up and we sometimes have folks pull out. What is encouraging (and can also upset organization a bit) is that we still have registration coming in!

Some suggestions have been made and we are now working to follow up on them:

1. Portable Washrooms are being checked into. School District has been contacted.

2. First Aid Kits are being put together for each site.

3. If shirt sizes are an issue, please connect with Dan or Diane at the office.

We invite your suggestions and comments. We can only change things if you let us know!

Game Facilitators (Coaches)

Many thanks to those parents who have offered to be Game Facilitators. Our Spring League is designed to be a fun and relaxed atmosphere in which players new to the game can have a gentle introduction and where 'veteran' players can hone their skills.

No formal coaching is expected and no soccer experience necessary but we do require parents to volunteer to do substitutions and 'player management' when they are at the field. The primary responsibility is to simply ensure all players get their fair share of playing time. If you know the game and can make some gentle suggestions to kids, that's a bonus.

Fast Facts

Last year, we have 3 divisions of Spring Soccer. This year we have 4!

Last year, we had 203 players. As of today, we have 262!

Yes, We Play in the Rain

We live in the most beautiful place in the world. Sometimes it rains. Okay, many times it rains. We do play soccer in the rain but do consider Player Safety as our first priority when cancelling games.

If it's a light drizzle or even a steady rain, the games will go on. If it's a torrential downpour, dark, lightning, and the gentleman next door begins building a large boat in his backyard, please check our website for field closures or consider following us on Twitter @AbbotsfordMFSC for updates.

Fall Registration is Open

We have a number of different programs available for players of all ages and abilities. Our Early Bird registration fees are in place until April 15th with a special Saturday opening of our office for Registration on April 12th.

Check out the website at www.abbotsfordsoccerclub.com for more information on all of our programs.

Again, we'd love to hear your feedback on the website. What's good, what's 'iffy', and what we need to add.

Many thanks!
