GT Nominations
Weatherford ISD will be conducting GT testing for nominated students in grades 1-6 beginning in April. Nominations are due Friday, March 9th. Forms may be obtained from your campus office and returned to your campus GT Specialist through the school office.
The following are district guidelines concerning GT identification:
i. Students may be nominated for the gifted and talented program by teachers, counselors, parents, or other interested persons.
ii. A selection committee shall evaluate each nominated student according to the established criteria and shall select those students for whom gifted program placement is the most appropriate educational setting.
iii. Assessment tools may include but not be limited to the following: achievement tests, intelligence tests, creativity tests, behavioral checklists completed by teachers, and student work products.
iv. Nominated students shall be assessed once during the spring semester.
v. Students who do not qualify may not test again until two years have passed (ex: a 1st grade tester who did not qualify may not test again until 3rd grade.)
vi. Parents and students shall be notified in writing upon selection of the student for the gifted program.
Special Note:
Safety Drills For February
Fire Drill with Blocked Exit and Shelter in Place
This month, we will be practicing two safety drills. We will practice how to evacuate the building in case of fire, and a shelter in place drill. These drills help us teach students the processes and ensure we are prepared in case of an emergency.
Attendance Policy
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Every minute Counts!
· School Starts at 7:40am and the final bell rings at 7:50am.
· Your student’s attendance directly affects their success and we want them to SUCCEED!
· 3 Parent Notes for excused absences will be accepted for each student per year.
· If your student has 10+ unexcused absences in a 6 month period, your case will be referred to attendance court.
· If your student has 18+ total absences, excused or unexcused, the attendance committee will review absences and create a program for credit recovery in order to prevent retention.
