7TH & 8TH GRADE SCHOOL START TIMES
7-8th Grade Start Time - January 4, 2021-End of School Year per School Calendar
When this school year began, we moved the tardy bell to 8:15 a.m. (8:04 a.m. is normal) for the safety of our students at arrival due to recommendations for a safe return during the COVID pandemic. This allowed our bus students and drop-off students to arrive at different times. As it turns out, 4-5 buses arrive at 7:47 a.m. and the last 1-2 arrive around 7:50-7:53. Moving the tardy bell shortened the school day for our students, and per the WI DPI we will be short hours for our 7-8th grade students. After reviewing the hours and minutes for this school year (2020-2021) it was decided that we can make up the missing hours for our 7-8th grade students. Starting January 4, we have 100 days of school left. 7-8th grade students will begin their school day at 8:02 a.m. starting on Monday, January 4, 2021 through the last day of school per the school calendar.
If a 7-8th grade student has a sibling in a lower grade, it is OK to drop-off the younger sibling at the earlier start time. 7-8th grade students may begin to be dropped off at 7:55 a.m. and their tardy bell will be 8:02 a.m.. 4K-6th grade will continue to have the 8:15 a.m. tardy bell so that we may continue to spread out the arrival of students. Please do not change your 4K-6th grade child's drop-off time unless they have a sibling in 7-8th grade.
NEW QUARANTINE OPTIONS FOR ASYMPTOMATIC CLOSE CONTACTS
As many of you have read, new quarantine guidelines for asymptomatic people were released by the CDC in early December. The WI Department of Health Services (DHS) and Waukesha County Public Health have aligned with the new guidance for quarantine of an exposed person. Currently, Lake Country School requires students and staff who are named a close contact to quarantine for 14 days. Lake Country School will continue to require the 14 day quarantine of close contacts until mid January. We are working closely with our contact at Waukesha County Public Health and conferring with our school physician, Dr. Attwell. We are all very pleased with our low number of COVID-19 cases.
The new guidelines (starting in mid-January at Lake Country School) will allow close contacts who do not develop symptoms to end their quarantine:
After completing day 10 of quarantine without testing.
After completing day 7 of quarantine and receiving a negative test result (FDA approved molecular or antigen) that was collected within 48 hours of the end of quarantine.
However, people must continue to monitor for symptoms for the full 14 days. If symptoms develop following the end of quarantine, people are advised to immediately isolate, contact their health care provider, and get tested.
Please look for more information in early January.
2021-22 ENROLLMENT FOR IN-DISTRICT 4 & 5 YEAR-OLDS
We are searching for ALL three and four year old future students in the Lake Country District. If you have, or are aware of a three or four year old in the district who will be 4 or 5 years old by September 1st, 2021, please have the parents contact Nicole Brown at brownn@mylakecountryschool.org or call (262) 367-3606 ext. 108. If you have children attending Lake Country School already, please don't assume we know about all younger siblings. We want to make sure we contact every eligible child before our Open House in February!
SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION NOTICE
Two positions are open for school board members to be elected on April 6, 2021, which are currently filled by Andrea Shrednick and Brian Brandel. These seats will serve three-year terms from April 2021 through April 2024. The Notice of School Board Election is HERE. MORE INFORMATION
INCLEMENT WEATHER
Winter weather in Wisconsin has the potential for inclement weather that may impact and warrant the need to delay or close Lake Country School.
School closings are considered when there is a wind chill warning with wind chills maintaining a level of 35 degrees below zero or greater for an extended period of time, especially if the wind chill warning includes the times that students are traveling to and from school, or if road conditions due to snowfall or ice are unsafe for travel.
Collective decisions are made with our bus provider, other area Superintendents, law enforcement agencies and national weather service advisories. We look to make these decisions as timely as possible. When Arrowhead High School is closed, all of the K-8 feeder schools are closed as well.
If the decision is made to close schools, families will be notified via a phone call by 6:00 A.M. Please make sure your contact information is up to date by logging into to Skyward Family access and choosing Skylert in the left-hand column. The information will also be posted to our website and shared with local media.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Please know that every effort is made to use up-to-date information to make decisions. We appreciate your continued support.
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
Winter is upon us. Please make sure your child/ren have the appropriate outerwear for the weather. We try to get them outside everyday if at all possible. If the regular temperature is minus 5 below and the windchill is -10 below or higher, expect that they will go out for recess. On those colder days the time spent outside may be shortened.
REMINDER: Again, please stress the importance of not sharing hats as this is a sure way to spread lice if it is present. We do have extra hats in the health room if a student forgets one.

YMCA WINTER BREAK CAMP
School's Out Winter Break Camp Registration paperwork is open and available! So, at this time, if you haven't already, please go on to our website (www.glcymca.org) and sign up for any and all days that you would need care. We are offering care on Monday 12/21, Tuesday 12/22, Wednesday 12/23 and the following week Monday 12/28, Tuesday 12/29 and Wednesday 12/30. You do not need to be a member to register for this program.
If you are unfamiliar with our program, we provide a full day of care on the West End of the YMCA at Pabst Farms from 6:30 am until 6:00 pm. These days are jam packed with fun activities from pool time, to themed arts and crafts and group games, rock wall time and so much more!
We do ask that children have everything they will need for the day packed in a bag/backpack such as: reusable water bottle, close toed shoes, two or more snacks, a lunch, swim suit and towel, and mask.
Here at the YMCA, we practice social distancing and protocols in order to keep all participants as safe as possible. At check in we will be taking temperatures and ensuring participants have everything they will need for the day, and then will be taken to wash hands thoroughly. At pick up, we do ask that parents call ahead (5-10 minutes) to allow staff to gather all of the child's belongings and have their hands washed to expedite this (sometimes) lengthy process.
The cut-off date to add or remove registration for the week of 12/21 is this coming Tuesday (12/15) and for the following week 12/28 will be Tuesday 12/22. This is to confirm that each day is amply staffed and supplies are set. These dates align with our billing departments schedule if you are participating in Y Care.
Early Release and School’s Out policy:
- Registration is complete when registration paperwork has been verified and payment fees are received.
- Register and pre-pay for all dates. Payment is non-refundable and nontransferable unless program is cancelled by the Y. 10% discount for oldest child(ren).
- Reference your child’s school calendar as there are no refunds. Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable unless the program is canceled by the Y.
