Upcoming Library Lessons: Lesson #1 Senior Library Legacy
The seniors will be heading to the SSHS library soon for 2 library units. The first assignment is the senior library legacy lesson. Seniors will choose their favorite SRC book, and then write and film an electronic book trailer video, advertising this novel. They will then make a poster with a QR code that links to this video. The QR code allows underclassmen to scan and view these videos using their phones. After viewing several senior videos, 9th-11th grade students will be able to develop a reading list for the future. These posters should be all around the campus soon. Please encourage students to view these student videos and try to view a few yourself. :-)

New Feature on SSHS Library Website
We now have a resource to help you. The library website has a Media Literacy resource that includes a Symbaloo webmix of sources to help you and your students. This webmix includes 41 sites that are devoted to helping you understand and teach this timely subject. To find these resources, visit the Santa Su Library website, and under the teacher tab, click on "Media Literacy". You can view this webmix below, and/or you can access the webmix at: http://santasulibrary.weebly.com
Each of the boxes in the Symbaloo webmix links to a valuable media literacy website.
Recommended Websites for Teachers:
Here are several amazing sites for the classroom. They include sites for several different subject areas. There are also sites that work for any subject or classroom. Try Stoodle to experience a real-time collaborative whiteboard experience with your students. It's like having virtual office hours. Another of my favorite sites below is a Ted-Ed resource; it gives students and teachers advice and directions for creating their own TED-Ed type videos. This site would be great for flipping the classroom or creating engaging senior project presentations. I've included a site devoted to maker spaces and a site for bringing virtual reality to the classroom. What's not to love?
The British Library's Discovering Literature: Romantics and Victorians
"Discover 1,200 Romantic and Victorian literary treasures, new insights by 60 experts, 25 documentary films, 30 inspirational teachers’ notes and more."

Makezine:
Makezine is an online magazine, devoted to providing maker space ideas for classroom use. Each maker space idea provides a list of supplies and approximate costs. :-)
Stoodle: Collaborate in real time on an interactive whiteboard. This would be a great way for students to create study groups, or for teachers to conduct online "office hours".
Fostering Civil Discourse: A Guide for Classroom Conversation.
This is a free guide for teachers who want to foster classroom discussions that are meaningful and respectful. (very timely topic)

Ted-Ed Clubs Program: "The TED-ED Clubs Program supports students in discovering, exploring, and presenting their big ideas in the form of short, TED-style talks." Great resource for you and/or your students.
The Newberry: Immigration and Citizenship in the United States, 1865-1924
With immigration issues permeating the headlines, here is a site that offers a digital collection of primary source, examining immigration through the years. Each primary source in this collection includes corresponding discussion questions.
