A Note from our Principal
Greetings WPA Families,
Restaurant Night
Thanks to everyone who joined us last night at Handel's Ice Cream in Woods Cross for our sweet and tasty fundraiser.
School Wide Service Day - Sept 9th, 1:30 p.m. - Until Complete
We are excited to expand our school service learning program with our first school-wide family service project. We will be working with Woods Cross City to honor the National Day of Service in remembrance of September 11th on a park clean-up project. Please bring your family and join us to help beautify our community and make a positive difference in our world. See the flyer below for details!
Volunteer Background Checks
We place a high priority on student safety, and we require background checks for all classroom and field trip volunteers. We will be hosting background checks here at the school on September 13th, starting at 10 AM. There is a $25 fee to complete the background check; you must bring ID. If you have had a background check with us in the past, you are still in our system and do not need to repeat the process. Background checks are eligible for fee waivers if applicable.
Electronic Devices in School
This is a friendly reminder that per Wasatch Peak Academy Policy, electronic devices, if brought to school, must remain out of sight in a bag or backpack and be turned off during the School day. You can access the full policy here.
Fall Festival
Mark your calendars for our Fall Festival! It will be Friday, October 7th, from 4:30-7:30. It is a wonderful way to support the school, meet new people in our community, and enjoy an evening with your family. It is also a wonderful way to get in some volunteer hours. Reach out to our PTO if you are willing to help us out with this delightful event.
New Year, Great Habits
The start of the year is a great time to kick off new habits or get back into old routines. We encourage families to keep reading at the forefront of their minds as they settle into what works for their family this year. Reading with your child is the most powerful way for parents to support their student's education. Reading aloud to your student, having them read to you, and keeping them reading independently ALL have excellent benefits well into Jr high school. This note includes a summary of the many ways reading benefits your student. Check it out!
Class Placement and Beginning of Year Assessments
Placing students in the right classroom environment is an important tool to ensure their individual needs are met. We are proud to be a leading school in South Davis County for student growth. We feel that a combination of classroom placement, robust support programs, and a strong intervention model are a cornerstone of this success. We use a variety of assessments and careful thought and consideration in class placements each year. Still, we recognize that it is normal and expected for students to grow and develop at different rates. One summer can impact growth for a student as well. With that in mind, we start each school year by reassessing students (and again in January) to ensure that our program works for ALL students. While we often get the placement right, there are occasions when we need to change a student’s classroom to meet their needs best. We are always happy to give additional information about class placement. If you have questions regarding your student’s class placement now or throughout the year, please contact Mrs. Pilkington.
Safe Schools for all Students
WPA is committed to maintaining a school climate that is safe, welcoming, and free of harassment and discrimination. The School prohibits all forms of harassment, and it does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, citizenship status, or genetic information.
We encourage anyone who believes they (or someone else) have been subjected to harassment or discrimination at the School to file a complaint with Mrs. Pilkington. The School will promptly investigate and resolve all such complaints following School policy.
If you would like to learn more about how the School handles complaints of harassment or discrimination, please review the School’s Notice of Nondiscrimination and its Civil Rights Policy on the School’s website.

PTO CORNER
Fall Festival planning is underway: This is a super fun way to volunteer! A sign-up will be coming soon.
For now they are needing donations for the silent auction (contact Gwen Fisher - gwenfisher116@gmail.com)
There is also a need for people to chair portions of the festival as well as other donations (contact Shannon Ray - 801-735-4955 text)
Class captains needed! We are still needing people to be class captains for Miss Riley John (2nd grade), Mr. Sim (4th grade) and Ms. Gaerte (6th grade). If you are interested in helping these teachers organize volunteers to do door decorations, field trips, in class help and just get to know the kids better then contact Mara Callister (ashbymara@gmail.com)
NEW THIS YEAR: we will no longer be using Helpcounter as a means to log volunteer hours. We are simplifying the logging process by using a google form that you can find HERE. (https://forms.gle/3nimMPP7WUtcaCTEA) This link will SOON be found on the website under “Volunteer” or as a QR code by the front office!
If you are new to our school remember to connect with our Facebook groups. links to those can be found on the volunteer tab of the school website. Just look for the red drop down and the shovel that says "Volunteer".
BIG NEWS! We already have 213.5 Total Volunteer Hours recorded for this school year! Way to go Volunteers!
If you have any questions about volunteering or PTO please reach out to me. I am the Volunteer and Communications Chair for the PTO and my name is Kara Hess (karaleigh16@gmail.com).
Carpool Reminders
Carpool Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders.
We would like to improve carpool drop-off and pick-up time and have worked to set forth procedures in order to maximize flow while maintaining student safety. Please note the following
o Front Lot: pull forward to just beyond the kinder door. Back Lot: pull forward to the end of the sidewalk (with enough room to exit).
o Stay in your car and do not exit so we can keep the line moving.
o Once you have dropped off/picked up your child, exit the carpool lane to the left lane and proceed forward to exit to the street.
o If you have not picked up or dropped off your child, stay in the line and wait. Do not pull out to the left and then cut back in. Doing so disrupts the flow and slows it down.
o Please respect the Student Safety Patrol directions in the morning and staff in the afternoon—we want to get you out of line just as fast as you do, but we MUST maintain student safety.
o In the front parking lot, you may only exit LEFT so as to not turn into the student crosswalk. In the back parking lot, you may only exit RIGHT so as to not interfere with the turn in lane for the back parking lot.
o Handicap Parking in the front parking lot is ONLY for those with a posted handicap parking pass. Please do not park in any of the spots if you do not have a pass.
o The carpool lanes are the ONLY locations on school property for drop off or pick-up— the parking lot is not a drop off option. Having to stop the carpool lane for parents and their children to cross stops the flow and increases wait time. Exception: the parent needs to go into the front office.
o Do you need to go to the front office outside of drop-off and pick-up times (8:15 am –2:00 pm and after 3:00 pm)? You are welcome to utilize the carpool lane and park for up to 5 minutes. Anything longer that 5 minutes, please park in the parking lot and walk in.
