Notes from the Music Room
Dear Families of Spencer Kindergarten Students,
I would like to invite you to come to Spencer for a Kindergarten music program. At this presentation, students will demonstrate some of the musical concepts (like singing voice, movement, high vs. low, fast vs. slow) we have been working on in class. Special guests may even be invited to join in the fun! Students may bring a maximum of two special people with them to the presentation (seating is limited in the Media Center). Special guests should get a guest sticker outside the main office and wait there until 12:45 p.m. and then walk down to the Media Center.
Listed below are the program dates and times:
Thursday, March 7th 9:45 a.m. Mrs. Loiselle’s class (Meet in the music room, not the Media Center)
Thursday, March 7th 12:45 p.m. Mrs. Morrow’s class
Monday, March 11th 12:45 p.m. Mrs. Andrews’ class
Tuesday, March 12th 12:45 p.m. Mrs. Price’s class
If you have any questions, please send me an e-mail. I look forward to seeing you in music class!

Kids Read Now
Dear Spencer Family,
I am so excited to share an exciting opportunity with all of you! Before I do that, I would like to provide you a little background first. In lieu of a summer school program, our district has received a grant to partner up with Kids Read Now to provide all of our students who have an Individualized Reading Improvement Plan (IRIP) a summer book reading program. These students will be invited to a required Summer Reading Kick Off Event (Thursday, May 30th), where they will receive three books that are at their reading level to take home and keep! As they read the books, they will receive more books in the mail delivered right to their house. The students are able to receive up to 9 books over the summer that they get to read and keep. The goal of this program is to help stop the summer reading loss and excite students about reading.
Now, for the exciting opportunity! Our teachers at Spencer have been really eager to find a program that will keep children reading books over the summer so we wanted to extend this opportunity to allstudents at Spencer who are currently in JK-3rd grade. We know that all of our parents are highly supportive of summer reading and this opportunity makes it an easy task for parents and exciting time for kids! The cost of the program is $60 per child. The benefits you will receive for your $60 are:
· An invitation to a Summer Reading Kick Off Event (Thursday, May 30th after school) where you will receive 3 books for your child to take home and start the summer reading.
· Your child will get to choose books they would like to read over the summer. The children will have a teacher work with them to choose books at their level.
· Up to 6 additional books at your child’s independent reading level will be delivered to your home (Your child will receive 9 books total, as long as they are reading the books.)
· The books mailed to your house will be addressed to your child - which is exciting because all children love to receive mail!
· Each book your child receives will have questions on the inside cover of the book for parents to check understanding and stimulate discussions on the books.
· Text or email reminders from Kids Read Now to request your new books.
· Children who read all 9 books will receive a certificate and a special prize in the fall.
For parents returning to Kids Read Now, we have provided the company with your feedback and look forward to improvements this year!
We are very excited about this summer reading program! If you are interested in purchasing this program for your child or children, please send in cash or check made out to Spencer for $60 per child by Thursday, March 7th.If you have any questions about this program, please contact our Literacy Coach, Carolyn McNulty mcnultc@brightonk12.comor me.
