Staff Recognition for February
Ms. La Bone has been working with children in the field of education since 1990. She is a parent of a graduate from UT Austin who had previously graduated from Magnolia High School. Her family moved back to Magnolia (from California) in January 2005. One of the goals was to have her daughter return to Bear Branch Elementary, where she knew her daughter would receive an excellent education and wanted to work as an educator herself at the best school in the district. She believes success is influenced. Her family always encouraged her to be the best that she could be growing up. While at Bear Branch Elementary for 16 years, Ms. La Bone has taught second and third grade. Her determination and initiative have led her to many different leadership roles in the district, campus, and community. Not only has she been a teacher in the classroom, but since 2006 she has been the Lead ESL at BBE. She is currently the director of Camp Invention. Ms. LaBone enjoys running, cooking, and cruising. She also enjoys her time with family and friends. Teaching is in Ms. La Bone’s heart, and it shows through her positive relationship with her students. She cares about all her students’ futures and believes that learning is what helps a child grow. She feels all students should be provided with a positive, healthy, and safe environment that allows them to be respected as valued and unique individuals. The lessons and teaching she provides enhance curiosity and perseverance to want to learn. She consistently promotes a positive and open atmosphere in her classroom. Building a relationship with each student and setting a positive mindset are the keys to her students’ success.
Staff of the Month - Jennifer Atkinson
My name is Jennifer Atkinson. My husband, Russell, of 28 years, and I have lived in our home in Magnolia since 1994. Russell and our daughter Sarah are Magnolia High School graduates, while our daughter Emily and our son Jesse are Magnolia West High School, graduates. It’s always exciting in our home when the Magnolia Bowl comes around! It has been my pleasure to have been working for Magnolia ISD since 2009. I began subbing and then, in 2011, began working full time in the clinic. I began at MJH6 2011-2012 and went from there to MHS 2011-2014 and then to MWHS 2014-2018. I have taught countless First Aid, CPR, and AED classes across the district, helping MISD’s employees achieve and maintain their certifications. I have also enjoyed working in the clinic during the summer for our Special Education Department’s Extended School Year and the Bilingual Summer School Program. Mid-Summer 2019, I was led to begin a new adventure working at Bear Branch Elementary as the registrar and attendance clerk I absolutely love and enjoy. It is wonderful to be able to work in such a caring community. I am thankful to work for a district where colleagues become friends, and those friends become family!
