Matt's Monday Memo
February 24, 2020
Good morning, Staff,
Excited to have a Champions Walk to celebrate with our student athletes today in wrestling and swimming--congratulations to them, their teammates, and coaches. Parker Hagemann got second by .14 of a second in an individual event and had a media member interviewing her almost as she was out of the pool on Friday. Parker's disappointment was evident but she very gracious under the circumstances, answering the questions posed to her and placing the result in a positive context. The 400-meter freestyle relay was the last event of the day, and our team had been performing much like Parker's earlier race: good but not to the level the team had hoped. She served as the anchor for the the relay team, and previous swimmers had done well to set her up to win the race. Jerry Collins looked at me as she was preparing to enter the pool for her leg and commented, "If we have the lead for her leg, it's game over." True to Jerry's prediction, she left no doubt as we easily won the event and moved from 8th to 5th overall. Parker will swim in college, and her resilience on Friday and the ability to not let disappointment cloud her next challenge was inspiring.
A reminder to please reach out to families of students that are struggling in the effort to invite them to schedule a conference. They will have already been sent an email notice with a link sign up, while all parents will have access on February 28. All parents will have the option to use times that are unscheduled on either days we are offering conferences this spring. We are hopeful that this format will foster more conversations, most especially with families of students that are struggling. Many thanks to Mickey Erb and Dan Broshears for helping with this process.
Here is the framework for our upcoming conferences in March:
March 9 & 10
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM; Scheduled: 5 - 7 PM; Walk up: 7-8 PM
March 11
12:50 PM - 2:45 PM; Walk-up
Have a great week!
Regards,
Matt
